Bidra med feedbackWe love coming here on our yearly trips to Spittal an der Drau. Im a huge ribs fan and that is my favourite dish here.
I had a room at a hotel on the same location so i ended up having late dinner in this restaurant. Mexican food is not high on my list of priorities, but since i was there and too tired to go looking for some other place. I gave it a try, and was not disappointed. Food took some time to prepare, but it wasn't unreasonably long. Food was good. It was not "very good" or "spectacular", but just "good". Staff was friendly and hospitable. Atmosphere was very pleasant with dimmed lights in main area, and lamps shining on each of the tables from above. Place was almost full when i arrived, obviously with locals, but one could tell that they all dressed up for the occasion. There were several smaller or bigger groups having fun without bothering others. To sum it up: If you're passing through Spittal, this place is a solid choice. I would eat at this place again.
I enjoyed the most it´s atmosphere- it looks really fun and someone has done a great work in decorating it. Food is good and selection is really large. Mexican ingredients are prepared in american style, so most of the menu could be called "mexican fast-food" in my opinion, but they also have some slowly cooked meals in the menu. They have several vegetarian selections a well which I personally appreciated a lot. Place was really crowded so reservation might be a good idea...
Growing up in Southern California and living in Mexico makes me something of an expert of Mexican cuisine. To be reasonable, it is unfair to expect real Mexican food in an area thousands of miles from the source. The biggest surprise is even though it's in an area with plenty of fresh, delicious food, they don't utilize the local bounty. Instead of fresh avocado guacamole, they use sour cream with something to give it a pale green tint. Instead of a fresh simple salsa made with fresh tomatoes, onions and cilantro, they use a hideous sweet barbecue sauce - they call it chili sauce. The food isn't horrid - it just doesn't use the fresh ingredients available in every grocery store we've been to here in Carinthia. That said, the service was good, attentive and friendly, I liked my margaritas and they used real lime juice. Overall I would go back and enjoy a drink on the patio when the weather warms up, but I can easily make delicious Mexican dishes easily at home with all the lovely ingredients locally available.
We walked in off the street and the place was crowded, When we asked for a table for two, things didn't look good as we didn't have a reservation. Fortunately, the staff were extremely helpful and found us a table in minutes and are we glad they did! The bad news is that they don't have an English menu, all the dishes are named in English but with a German description. Given the fact that this is the only English review on here, maybe they don't need one. Anyway, the food was excellent, very well priced and the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. If you are ever anywhere in the vicinity of this restaurant, you must call in, it will be well worth it! Probably best if you make a reservation first though.
