Our son lives in ayr there are some good places to eat, but in this week we found macfarlanes, in the center of ayr. we had not booked because we were a place that proved to be closed. the eating was absolutely delicious, the...they were so friendly and welcoming a round top class place, I recommend you try it.
This was our fourth time dining at this restaurant and once again the food was excellent and the service was great. While some may not like the small portions, we enjoyed the idea as it allowed us to try multiple dishes. We highly recommend this place.
When she brought the menus, our well-mannered waitress said the food would be smaller portions you would choose two or three and it would be like tapas ..it wasn't. On closer inspection, the menu contained main plates priced accordingly, with side dishes (choice of potatoes/veg) to...be bought in addition. Most frustrating though was that each food item was brought out whenever it was ready. So...my wife's main plate (a disappointingly, overly toasted bruschetta) arrived a full five minutes before her other choice of Bang Bang Cauliflower. A FURTHER minutes later, my side dish of chips arrived. A further minutes after THAT my main dish of braised beef eventually appeared. By that time, my wife had completely finished her meal and I had done likewise with my chips. So it was just the (lovely) braised beef, in a sauce with no veg, potatoes etc. I have to say, the braised beef was absolutely lovely. If it had been served up on a plate ALONGSIDE creamy mash and veg, this would have been a totally different review but the concept of just serving up the food items as they were ready, and trying to pass that off as tapas did not work for us I'm afraid. In any other restaurant I would have probably complained but to be fair to the waitress, she let us know exactly how it would play out beforehand! This was a real shame as two or three years ago, I rated MacFarlanes as Ayr's best restaurant and I used to recommend it left, right centre. We left very disappointed.
This was our first time in Macfarlane and my wife booked it for my birthday. What a fantastic treat. Right from the off it was a very professional and extremely friendly front of house team. Fantastic explanation of the dining experience we were going to...get and plenty of advice on what and how we could go about it but the choice was ours to make, the team would make it work. The food was exquisite all served as it should be, we could have chosen more options as all the food looked tasty but stomach capacity is limited. Food combinations certainly complimented each other and were different, the Lamb and Scallops especially. Again we can’t complement the front of house staff (and of course the brilliant cocktail mixologist) enough. However behind the calm and professional team up front there are the chefs out back who pedal hard to provide the backbone for this fantastic place to dine, we thank them too. We will definitely be back.
