Bidra med feedback2 meals there over 3 days. Breakfast eggs were great (at 2 AM! ; Dinner 2 days later of Halibut fish and chips was amazing as well.
Ted the owner is trying to get rich off of every one. He raised the price across the menu 40%!! You can eat at a fancy resturant for the price of s greasy burgers. Just a side of fries is 4.49!! Ican buy a bag for that. The owner is offensive fat and unclean. The dinner is dirty inhabited with flys. If your drunk its close snd you don't care. Go to the caribough family resturant. Much better place. Also open 24/7
A little back story: Six years ago I lived on the peninsula and would go to Sal 's every week after bowling since it was one of the only restaurants open. I would sit on the mini stools and enjoy the sights, sounds, and action. The kitchen drama could get heated at times, but always stopped short of flying dishes. The patrons could be loud, but always stopped short of fisticuffs. The lines at the register could get long, but the customers stopped short of losing patience. Often, it could take a few minutes to get inside so I would throw a quarter in the candy machine and squeeze through the crowd. Once I found a spot I would read the paper or the historic menu. As far as food is concerned I rate myself an expert for only one menu item. I have ordered the Alaskan Burger at least 20 times and it is always juicy and satisfying. Recently, I had an opportunity to visit Sal 's after a 6 year hiatus and it did not disappoint. On my recent visit I took family, with whom I was able to share memories, on our way to the restaurant. The restaurant was packed solid, but we were able to get a table behind the row of stools. I anxiously waited for some diner fireworks. The staff was in the weeds and I heard one server say, It 's 11 so I 'm out of here, as she walked into the kitchen and out of sight. I knew service would be slow the rest of the way. Our server was nice, friendly, and did a great job considering she was deserted. I ordered the Alaskan, which, as usual, was tasty just like I remembered. Everyone at our table was happy with the food. Sal 's is a diner and with a diner comes grease, drama, and darn good people watchin '. You are going to get diner coffee, diner service, and diner food. If you want a meal that will fill your belly or soak up libations then this is the place. In the diner world Sal 's ranks highly. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
I really can 't believe what an awful establishment this is. I live in Anchorage, and frequently camp and travel around, and after a second or third trip to Soldotna, my two companions and I decide to try Sal 's. World famous cinnamon rolls, they proclaim! How could we not try it out? It was in the middle of the day, and there were two other tables. We were there for over an hour. There was one cook, and one or two waitstaff. After our orders went in, and came out sporadically, we inquired where my salad was. The waiter disappeared, then about five minutes later came over and leaned into our table like he was telling us a secret. He basically told us that the cook was being an and didn 't want to make the salad, and if there was something else I would want. Needless to say, we were shocked. How utterly inappropriate. I relented and just asked for some dry toast, because of food allergies to certain margarine and I 'm also lactose-intolerant, and I was so hungry, I 'd take anything. I get some toast that was practically charcoal and drenched in margarine. We ended up getting a cinnamon roll to share, and it was the driest, stalest thing. It maybe would have helped if it were nuked for a minute to try to soften it up, but it was really awful. I bake a lot, and I could tell that this roll was left out to dry or was well over a week old. Thankfully, this wasn 't unprecedented and unusual, so I know I 'm not crazy. Two women from Soldotna came to my work in Anchorage, and we talked about Soldotna restaurants and they confirmed my belief that Sal 's is simply an awful establishment. Next time I travel through that place, I 'll only go to that delicious Moose bakery, or bring my own food.
I had a blast here...a blast from my past. Growing up in northern WI I visited quite a few small town diners. This rates right up there with the best of 'em. Typical diner food with daily plate specials. Burgers were good and prices were purty darn good for Alaska standards. Waitresses were fun (as in "Mel! Kiss my grits!!! and attentive. Decor was akin to the name of this charming dining establishment and they are easy to find. My best friend made sure he took me here cuz he knew I 'd enjoy myself. He was right. I will be back.
