Freysnesi - Skaftafell

We were looking for a reasonably priced meal and found this great cafeteria style eating place. The food was very tasty and the portions were a good size

Had Tenderloin of Pork, unfortunately it was overcooked, quite salty, broccoli and cauliflower just blanched, but I don't mind that, except it hadn't been strained, so plate full of water and when you held broccoli up on the fork, water was dripping out of it! Not great value for the price, quite disappointing as was really looking forward to a good quality dining experience..

We were pretty unhappy that evening trying to outrun an incoming storm that was going to close the Ring Road the next day so we had taken off in the night to head west. After dark, we came upon this little place as had many others in the same situation we were grabbing a meal, and some provisions for the night. The staff were very helpful (good service, and great information about Icelandic weather really must pay attention to that! . Burgers and fries and then back on the road. Understated restaurant with good food and reasonable prices. The lamb burger was delicious and the salad plentiful (at a gas/convenient spot?! . Service was quick and friendly. Iceland has many great dining spots in unexpected locations proving fast food does not have to be the standard for traveler stops.

When we stopped here on our tour bus and were told that we would be returning here for lunch we were a little disappointed. I was wrong to judge on first opinions. When we returned there was a great number of menu options available from burgers to lamb shanks to sandwiches all freshly made and both my husband and I were shocked! I opted for the Potato Gratin with Mushroom sauce which was around 659 sk. My husband went for the burger and fries and he said it was delicious, cooked fresh and really tasty. The food was reasonably priced and tasted great. Definitely a great place to stop off to have lunch at a reasonable price.
