Bidra med feedbackWe stopped by for lunch on a Thursday and found ourselves to be the only customers. The owner, a friendly gentleman, greeted us warmly. I was joined by my two children, aged 4 and 6 months in a pram, as well as my mother. He graciously opened the doors for us and allowed us to choose our seating. The service was excellent and he interacted wonderfully with my curious little boy, answering his many questions. The menu offered a good selection at reasonable prices. I ordered the homemade chicken curry, which was delicious. The chicken was perfectly cooked, the rice fluffy and the naan bread was not the typical mini one you might find in a toaster. My son had the kids burger, which was clearly homemade and a generous portion for a children's meal. My mother enjoyed the Cajun chicken burger, which was also well-prepared and a satisfying size. It was topped with fresh salad and homemade coleslaw, a rarity nowadays. We had a great time and will definitely be returning soon!
Called in on a mid-week evening for a drink and meal. It was lovely to enter a warm and welcoming hostelry with log fires burning, in both the bar and lounge, where we were seated. We tried the locally brewed Salopian and Stonehouse Brewery ales, which were in fine fettle and then had a thoroughly enjoyable meal, accompanied with a bottle of delicious red wine. We had a memorable evening, which included great company, a warm and cosy atmosphere in a lovely village inn. Well done the new owners!
Booked for the Sunday roast for my wife's birthday as had heard many recommendations for the White Lion, they weren't wrong, absolutely fantastic food very reasonably priced. Staff were excellent couldn't do enough for us. booked again for the following Sunday :
We visited today to celebrate our dear friend’s birthday and wow, what a magical afternoon we had. We had booked a table in the old stables as we wanted to be able to sing happy birthday without upsetting other diners with our terrible singing voices. We were given the lovely table in the corner by the fire, which was just perfect. We were served by a lovely young girl, who made us feel like nothing was too much trouble. We all had roast dinners and not only were the flavours incredible, but the presentation was perfection. My partner is actually a chef himself, so he’s not always the easiest to please food wise but he said this is now his new favourite place for a rare day off. The pub is under new management and it was immediately evident that they’ve made significant improvements to the place since we last visited under the old management. With improved menus, nicer decor and fabulous service we’ll definitely be returning again soon for a date night!
Such a disappointing visit. Ushered into the Cow Shed. Zero atmosphere, stressed staff. Asked for water, didn’t arrive. Had to ask for cutlery, food cold by the time we had the cutlery. Food was ok, hot or even warm would have been nice. Asked for the bill, didn’t arrive, went to pay and left. Not asked once if everything was ok, in which case I would have mentioned it. First and last visit. I suspect from overhearing other guests that they won’t be returning. £50 odd hard earned money would have been better spent elsewhere. We wanted to support new owners. I hope things improve in the future for them as they have the foundation of what could be a great country pub. Beef was good (but cold) having been dragged from the pub to the Cow Shed. Over cooked broccoli, under cooked cauliflower cheese. The half a carrot and slither of parsnip taste was good but again cold. Ice cream scoop of mash….cold. I’m looking for some positives but I’m struggling to find them with either food or service.
