Bidra med feedbackMy partner found this when looking for somewhere close to our hotel The Mercure. It has a fixed price evening meal for around 23 euros or hot stones with pork turkey and beef for 25 euros. We both went hot stones. To be honest if we were to go back I would probably recommend you share one as there was plenty of meat, potatoes and mushrooms which left no room at all to sample one of their desserts. Really good value, away from the touristy centre but still easy to reach. Stopped serving 815 so get there early.
We had the 3 course dinner for 23 euros each. We both had the quinoa and chicken starter, and the pork for main course. Rice pudding for me and cheese for my husband. Excellent quality and enjoyed every bite. A short walk over the bridge to the other side from our hotel.
I ate here on a recommendation from a Saumur B&B in the mid-2000s, and when I returned to Saumur in 2019, this was a place I sought out because of my memories of its cozy decor, warm, personable service, and delicious homestyle food. I was happy to find that this restaurant retained its charm and quality. This time, I ate here with my young preteen and husband and they both loved it. We ordered a fresh chevre appetizer and la pierre chaude du boucher, which came with salad, bread, and an incredibly large and diverse assortment of meats--which we cooked on our individual hot rocks (pierre chaud). My son was absolutely thrilled by the experience. We had a delicate and delicious dessert with strawberries from the owner's garden. This is still my favorite place to eat in Saumur (and now the rest of my family's as well).
We visited here a week ago on a Friday evening. We sat outside as we had dogs with us which was no problem for the restaurant. Staff spoke good English but also entertained my attempts at ordering in French. Food was excellent. All 3 courses very good. Price very reasonable as well. 3 courses from set menu and wine came to 46E for 2 of us. Would definitely visit again.
We had a wonderful meal here on a Monday evening in June. Food was perfect. Wine (local) was superb. We were the only evening diners though it was busy at lunchtime. It really should be overbooked. Husband cooks and wife 'mans' the restaurant. Friendly and tremendously good value.
