Our Canadian friends wanted to treat my partner and I to a meal out since they dined with us so often in our home near Torres Novas. Knowing how our friends from across the pond loved steak my partner researched and on the basis of reviews recommended Oh! Vargas. Let me say straight off that the starters and desserts were both tasty and good quality. But ...... the Canadians and my partner chose the expensive ‘mature’ steak offering which proved to be virtually inedible! I had the grilled pork which was good as is standard in Portugal. Service was chaotic and run by a bunch of kids described by my partner, a former hospitality manager for Cambridge University, as ‘headless chickens’. We asked for a bottle of ‘house red wine’ not being familiar with there most extensive wine list. The wine was lovely but it was also listed as 60 euros when my friends received the bill with no former advice as to its provenance. I suppose if it was me paying the bill, ...... you would put it down to experience, but on our recommendation we have a lot to do to compensate our friends for a very poor, expensive disaster!
