Bidra med feedbackThis little undiscovered restaurant is without doubt one of the best fish, paella and meat restaurants in Santander. The Monkfish was truly the best I've ever eaten, meaty and beautifully cooked. The sides of salad and chips was delightful. These guys are renowned for their paella and travel across cantabria, Spain and Europe as master paella chefs. In addition to the above the guys have a great wine cellar and prices for all Pockets. Exceptionally priced and without doubt a must for anyone wanting authentic cantabrian food. Emilio the owner's son now runs the restaurant with his wife and these guys have it just right.
This restaurant is located right in front of the Barrio Pesquero in Santander, on an unassuming side street. The downstairs bar could easily be confused for an irish pub. But once you go upstairs, you can see how the magic happens. They only have 2 things on the menu Chuleton a la Brasa and Rape Negro (Black Monkfish). We ordered both, which also came with a side of tomato salad. I used to believe that another local restaurant had absolutely the best Rape but my mind was changed after this delicious fish was served. Cooked to perfection, it just melted in my mouth. Unbelievable. The steak was served in a portable charcoal grill and was still cooking when it arrived at our table. It was served a perfect medium rare when it hit my plate, and it was clear that the quality of the meat itself was outstanding. The wine list was extensive and we were allowed to go into their wine room and choose from a variety of different bottles, at a reasonable price. Don 't miss Vicente when you visit Santander you will not be disappointed!
We went to La Taberna de Vicente on a weekday because it was my birthday so it was a bit quieter but it meant we had the full attention of the owner, Emilio what a lovely guy. He's clearly passionate about his family restaurant and delivering quality to his customers. When I told him his tomato salad reminded me of the flavours of my Spanish Granny's vegetable patch he beamed with pride. This is exactly the kind of place I like to go to eat at, authentic dishes, fantastic quality and fresh ingredients sourced locally from around the region of Cantabria. The restaurant is on the second floor of the building and is rustic and unpretentious but with a great atmosphere. Below that is the bar and it's nice that they're kept separate. We ordered chuleton because it's their specialty along with black monkfish (although we didn't try that one), we were advised very well and even told that we should order less as it would be too much, which is appreciated. All in all, the food was delicious and very reasonable can't wait to go back!
Estupendo sitio.
Bravo!
