I turned up at short notice at this restaurant and had a fantastic welcome by Sonia and her parents. I ate great foods very reasonably priced. I I highly recommend this restaurant.
We were wondering back to our hotel in Lisbon's central district and noticed Santa Marta. That night we decided to give it a try, and are we glad we did. This was obviously a place that locals frequented, usually a good sign. We had great, friendly service (which seemed to be the rule in Portugal) and wonderful food. The octopus salad was delicious, as was the grouper and salmon, each served with the yummiest roasted potatoes and perfectly cooked broccoli (my wife is a broccoli snob). A nice bottle of rose was a great complement to the meal. If it hadn't been our last night in Lisbon, we would have gone back for another dinner!
Santa Marta is one of Lisboa’s hidden gems, just off Avenida Liberdade. The food is consistently delicious, and service is usually very good as well. However, the most recent visit suggests that not all is as ideal as it once was. On hearing that ‘pão’ was not required as a cover, the waiter scowled, mumbled, and conveyed the distinct impression of being extremely annoyed. Such conduct is atypical of Santa Marta, and hostile attitudes are totally unacceptable. However, on this occasion, the waiter will be given the benefit of the doubt (to be honest, though, his behaviour left no room for much doubt! , and it will be assumed that this was an unfortunate one-off. Nevertheless, management should be very careful that all staff maintain a welcoming, professional attitude towards customers. The priceless, extremely positive reputation of Santa Marta cannot be put at risk by the shortcomings of even one waiter. Cuidado!
Serviço de mesa muito bom com profissionais muito atenciosos, contrasta um pouco com o serviço de bar...
