There are a few parking spaces directly in front of the building, but you can also park in a rather winding, peculiar parking area just past the restaurant. <br/ <br/ Entering the front door brings you into a very cramped area with stools at a counter. There are plentiful tables scattered around outside to sit at if the weather is warm and sunny. A lot of these tables are shaded by trees so you may want a sweater or something to keep warm. There appears to be additional indoor seating in the back part of the building, but I wasn't sure how to get to it.<br/ <br/ Their lunch menu is pretty simple a selection of plates (including saurkraut and german potatos served with sliced bread and butter) and sandwiches (just the sandwich and a tomato pickle garnish). I tried their Weisswurst plate and it was very delicious. My dining partner had the roast beef sandwich and it looked very good as well. <br/ <br/ The sausage I had was tender and flavorful. The saurkraut had a very nice, sour taste to it and the potatos were flavorful as well. If you enjoy German cooking, you'll likely find this place enjoyable. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. Service is polite, but it was a bit slow the day I was there, despite being past 1pm in the afternoon.
The Greatest Schnitzel I have ever had. Authentic German cuisine!! Large beer selection. I definitely dig the hole in the wall decor, definitely my go-to spot. By the way the reason it's called Dutch gardens is because it was open in 1925. They changed the name during World War II because Germans were kind of frowned during the 1940's in America.
Thought is was amazing food and vibe. Stumbled on it by luck as I was driving through on a road trip. Would definitely make it a stop when going through Santa Barbara. Not located in the touristy part of State Street made it even cooler in my books. A unique dining experience.
The Dutch is such a sweet spot of humanity. Great food, great beers, great staff, excellent vibe and amazing music. The Dutch is always a top choice whenever we go out to eat.
What a gem of a place in Santa Barbara. Limited hours and days so check their schedule. Very authentic cuisine and excellent selection of European beers.
