What a terrible Saturday night. First, the waitress was not ready to communicate with us. We don't speak Italian, but we can communicate... She ignored us and let us know through her attitude that she really didn't want us there. We couldn't relax. Then we ordered an antipasti of the house £16 for the four of us. A large plate with 12 shrimps, 3 thin pieces artichokes, 4 pieces poulpe and 2 fried fish ariived. We thought that was ridiculous for the price. Then later the table next door ordered the same and the same plate came up with 3 times more on it!! I guess they were Italians and we weren't! What a way to treat people! But how do you complain if the waitress doesn't speak your language and doesn't like you! We also ordered pizzas and they didn't come up with anything and just didn't worth it. How disappointed and like a way to welcome customers! To avoid how really not even worth eating!
We saw the good reviews and decided to go for dinner at this place. There was a sign at the door, saying that they had moved. We went to the new location just down the road where they were located right next to a tennis club. As we entered there were two waitresses that stared at us and looked at us as if we were crazy for wanting food at 7 pm. They were hesitant in speaking to us and then one of them finally asked if she could help us. We said that we would like to eat dinner and the waitress replied that there was nothing available before 9.30 pm. We looked around and the place was completely empty. We felt like we had bothered them as they spoke to us in a very rude tone. It's a shame as we really had high hopes for Il Galeone.
We went to the Il Galeone at the tennis/bridge club (the one listed here was closed its a hundred metres up the road) and everything was faultless. The servings were huge, everything was fresh and **** tasty. Can highly recommend the antipasto galeone (can highly recommend everything, but this was unreal), some standards and a couple of local specialities to get a taste of. wine also fantastic. Make a booking its not huge, and there are only about 10 tables.
On our second day we was recommend to have lunch here. It was quite close to our hotel. The pastas was very tasty and we decided direct to go there also in the evening. Our experience from the day before was that most restaurants in town was touristic and mostly without style. In the evening we had a marwellous dinner and good wine. The restaurant is cosy and has also very good service. The meal is prepared with love and value for money. We really recommend new guests in Sanremo to test this pearl west of city centre.
