Larchenhutte - Sankt Gilgen

This place was a lifeguard after too many e-bike-kilometres and a completely drained battery (bike and me). No problem for the staff to provide two chargers to refuel the bikes while my wife and I spent a very pleasant half hour to fill us with beer and cake with fantastic views over Wolfgangsee. I would recommend the hike to this place for food and friendly staff. Thank you for charging!

We've been recommended this place for years, but never managed to get there. Oh, my God, what an experience, all about this place was great, wonderful for the children. Views were fantastic, the food and service we received was brilliant. Go on foot or in your car and visit this absolute jewel. P.s, we don't speak much German, but the type of serving was patient and gave us a fantastic experience.

On the way to the Zwolferhorn you cannot miss this place. Although I had a simple lunch (Frankfurter with bread, Euro 3,80) I really enjoyed the beers here. You have a pretty good number of beers on the menu. I loved it here!

This is one of 3 huts sitting in the middle of the Zwolferhorn, the others are Bartl Hutte and Sausteigalm. We drove to this cottage and parked pro the directions on the site of the cottage it is about 5' walk uphill from the parking lot to the cottage. Larchenhutte offers a fantastic view of Lake Wolfgang and the surrounding area. We arrived at 9:30 and there was still a cold in the air, but the staff had a basket of fleece blankets so that we could all pack together and stay warm. We ordered the largest breakfast on the menu (about €13 and some coffees we shared with our children. The food was excellent and included local meat, cheese, bread, yogurt, honey, jam and much more. Each cottage seems to have its own child-friendly amenities. Larchenhutte has a small slide that is deceptively fast and a pasture with miniature ponies that like to be pet. On a clear day, the views of this cottage are breathtaking. I recommend visiting Tandem with the other huts nearby (you can make a day of it! or as a stop on a hike on the Zwolferhorn.

This is one of these places where if you did not know it exists you would never look for it and even if you know where it is you still have to try to find it. And trust me it is worth the search. The view is spectacular. The service is friendly and efficient. The food is delicious. Come with friends, kids, dogs, spouse(s)...in any order. Take all your time. Enjoy a few drinks. Time actually stands still and you just want to stay in that moment forever. BTW you can actually drive up there so even for non hikers it is an option (3€ toll for the road bring coins). They organize events also so why not celebrate bday or even wedding in style?
