Bidra med feedbackWhilst not in the most salubrious location down a backstreet with some construction just a few tables outside on the pavement and a couple more inside, it really is a gem. Couldnt get booked in for 2 days, but well worth it. Family run restaurant with exceptional service. Greeted with a refreshing Rosato aperitive, we shared a mixed antipasta starter of 4 dishes, followed by a very tasty mussel and anchovy pasta, and roast lamb and veal with rosemary squared potatoes. Followed by a shared, home made tiramisu with coffee and cantucci. It was so good that we went back the following night and they managed to fit us in. The antipasta was different and followed by pacciera and a rabbit pasta (tasty but quite strong. Good wine pairings on both nights and good value for money. If you're in San Vito, check it out you wont be disappointed.
Never understand why folk give a restaurant 5 stars when clearly the food is not really what they are reviewing. I can only assume they are impressed by a terrazza in the street, with waiting staff wearing funky aprons with leather fastening, and a maitre d’ who tells you what is on offer, because they don’t actually have a menu you can look at. I don’t very often order pasta when I eat out simply because I can make a pretty passable dish at home. With Italian heritage pasta is not exciting even if it is served with fish! I like my anti pasta to come all at the same time, we all know that nothing is cooked specially for you, so why it has to come out one dish at a time with portions rather lacking n size? No ideas, but I like mine all at once so I can savour the textures and flavours. The beef, unexplained as to which part of the cow it came from was served with the most unpleasant red wine sauce, and I should have known better, as I don’t like my steak messed about. Cut into chunks it would have made a good old fashioned casserole. Not for me I’m afraid, I don’t like pretentious establishment with overly fussy staff and not a lot of atmosphere.
During our week/long stay, we’d been searching for something classic. A friend suggested this quaint spot. While chatting with the gentleman that took care of us during dinner, we learned the name is in honor of the the families grandmother and the restaurant is located in what was once her home. For dinner we tried their Antipasto Misto which consisted in six, light twists on classic bites… including eggplant parmigiana, crostini con purée di fave and others. We tried three different pasta dishes, the pasta is made in house. The dessert, an almond ice cream with fig filling was amazing. All in all, an honestly priced meal.
Lovely food, friendly service and a nice selection of wines. When I visit the area again, I'll definitely dine here again.
Bellissimo locale riservato con un di posti , menu fantastico e sopratutto personale splendido
