Bidra med feedbackOn appearances alone this looks like a very inviting, charming, authentic Italian restaurant, but it is nothing of the sort. The owner is surly and unfriendly unless you are a local. The kitchen which was in full view looked spotless, because nothing was actually being cooked in it. No hobs on, no sounds or smells of cooking, except for a pizza warmer that was kept busy. I ordered the classic lasagne which was surprisingly served within a few minutes, but it was obvious why. Not a drop of tomato or sauce, the meat fell apart because it was dry as a bone, and that's if you can call it meat. I knew it wasn't beef as it had no flavour at all, but at a guess it had the greyish colour, and bready texture of quorn mince tiny, powdery pieces you find languishing at the bottom of the bag. The dish had no seasoning and was absolutely tasteless, apart from its cheese sauce whose microwaved, dark edges were welded to the boiling hot plate! We were presented with the bill before we had even finished our drinks, it seemed we were an inconvenience once it was known we would not be ordering desert or coffee, and the sour look on the waitresses face when we didn't leave a tip was a picture! Not authentic Italian, not even authentic cooking, a cheap microwave meal from the supermarket would honestly have put the meal I had to shame! Cannot get my head around the good reviews, if you have functioning taste buds please don't waste your money in this establishment a restaurant it is NOT!
After two hours of wandering the streets around our hotel, we came upon La Mamma. Okay, the restaurant is in the basement, but who cares? The food was excellent, the Service was great and the prices reasonable. The Manager Tyema is a gem! The place was not busy when we got there at 8:15 and by 9:00 was very busy......with locals. Love it! They have Italian food along with pizza. Went there twice and would recommend to anyone who wants to have a great dinner off the beaten path, but still close enough to return to “the scene”. Yummy! Best in SAN Sebastian!
