We had a late lunch at 3 o'clock today. Since most restaurants around San Juan were already closed for a break and reopening for dinner, we decided to try Calderon, which luckily was still serving lunch. It's a casual hole in the wall with a printed menu, so we were a bit apprehensive while waiting for our orders. However, this small gem of a restaurant did not disappoint! The dishes are somewhat pricey, but well worth it. We particularly enjoyed their marinated lamb, tongue with mushrooms, and macadamia Sans Rival. The chorizo sisig and fried calamari were also good, but not outstanding. We are excited to return and sample more items from their menu next time. Hats off to the chef!
This restaurant offers Spanish dishes in a locality that does not have a good Spanish restaurant. As such, it could be a great place for the residents nearby, who belong to the upper middle and upper economic classes of Metro Manila. During our visit, we...found some dishes quite good and others that need a lot of improvement. The paella is not bad. The lengua is quite good. The beef is very tough. The other dishes are not particularly special in terms of taste and presentation. There is room for improvement and we would like to see this new restaurant raise its standards higher because it does have a potential given its location. We hope to return to Calderon and be surprised with the improvements on the taste and presentation of the dishes they are offering.
We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered! The paella Valenciana and lengua were especially delicious. The restaurant also offers live music in the evenings. The cozy room and fantastic food make for a wonderful dining experience.
The variety of food they offer are really good! One of best creamy lengua I've ever tasted. Worth trying!
