Bidra med feedbackWaited for 15 minutes at the window before i gave up. You need more than one person. There's no reason someone should have to wait this long to order a taco at a taco stand. Unacceptable.
Their chips and queso were good, at least. Operating out of an ex Wienerschnitzel, this hole in the wall has more gourmet leaning menu options compared to the taco trucks, with tacos starting above $3/ea and a $10+ ! tostada. Their meat choices are fairly standard and limited, though it does pander to the SGV crowd with its Canto style pastor. They also have fish and shrimp options. The meats just aren 't that good. The pastor is made of the chewy, fatty cut of pork whose unsavory texture overwhelmed any of its flavor. The carne asada was mostly salty. In contrast, the fish taco was okay, but on the plain side. Not worth the premium price $5 with Taco Nazo relatively closeby. The chips and queso or rather, the 50/50 guac/queso dip was good. The queso wasn 't grainy, and the chips were airy and crispy. Except the second time I ordered it, they only gave me the queso while charging me for the guac. Sigh. It 's not that I 'm not a fan of fancy tacos. It 's just that, with so many Mexican options nearby including East LA just a brief drive away , I just don 't see Mexicali Taco as a sensible option given its quality.
I came to grab some lunch on a weekday and was so happy to find this gem! There were two of us and we ordered a shrimp taco, Al pastor taco, 2 asada tacos, and the Mexicali fries. It was all so tasty and the portions are big! Definitely keep this in mind when ordering your tacos lol. Also the server was super very friendly and pleasant, I will definitely be coming back!
I went here because I needed to grab food quick. I had order a loaded fries (carne asada fries) and a tostada bowls which I mistaken from a Yelp menu I saw. I thought it was a traditional flat tostada. Simple with meats and cheese type. The bowl has beans, lettuce, sour cream, guac, and al pastor. So having had order this tostada bowl it was way too much food for me. The loaded fries were not bad, but I always prefer shredded cheese versus a nacho cheese sauce. It just made the fries soggy. Otherwise I would order again and ask for shredded cheese next time.
Got me some dorados and a shrimp taco. I saw their DTLA location while driving and got curious. Then I read about them on the SGV Eats FB page. Then when I got a discount card for local busineses in the Rosemead/San Gabriel area and saw they were on it, I just had to go down to try. Man! Was not expecting such great food! Potato tacos hit the spot and the pickled red onions on the shrimp taco? Wow. Not pictured was the canto-style al pastor cause I ahhnilated it. The guys that worked there were very helpful with menu suggestions and they served me fast! Will definitely be back!
