We asked at our hotel for a place they would go for pizza.....as Salzburg is pretty much a tourist magnet and we were not up for some fancy dinner. Its a little l hike to this place and they are closed except for lunch and...dinner. We got there just as they opened and were a little scared at first. The owner seated us and welcomed us to his restaurant. By this time you could start to smell the kitchen. We ordered pizza and it was one of the best we have ever had. After the pizza we decided to order main courses and even dessert and they were equally wonderful. The owner over sees everything and has become a friend of ours over the years we have been going here.. Even my family members when traveling stop in for dinner. We have been know to take the train from Munich to Salzburg for the day...just to eat at IL Sole.

My family and I used to go to this restaurant evey month when we lived in Salzburg! The owner Ferdinand and small staff, may seem like rude or busy, but are part of the character of the restaurant! Nothing like talking to Ferdinand when he...isnt running around the restaurant (his nickname for us was flash) and listen to his stories about his work and the people he met when worked in a cruise! A really nice guy but vey straight forward and impacient like most austrians! He doesnt even write the orders because he remembers everything! The food is great and so is the price! Nothing but nice memories to remember about this hidden gem! Once, when I was a kid Ferdinand gave every teen in the restaurant ice cream, it was really sweet! Great pizzeria and my constant regards to the staff that manages to keep a fast service even in busy days! Nothing but the best to all!
