I went for lunch with a big group of 10 (we made a reservation a week in advance) _Surprisingly, food came put really fast.
We were in town and met up with some family at the Legal Sea Foods in Crystal City for dinner.
One of my favorite restaurant to go to every time I am going back to Bourgogne. It is especially good during summer, as you can enjoy a great view on the saone river while you eat outside. Always having very good service and cuisine.Great cuisine with a mix of traditional french dishes and more spicy things. The spicy crab as a starter and the frog legs or fish friture as main course being my favorites ! Also have a good wine selection, this restaurant is a great place to stop while visiting Bourgogne or even to have a nice break while travelling and driving by the region.
This restaurant, just past St Jean - le- Priche, on the N6 heading north from Macon, has an absolutely prime setting on the banks of the River Saone. We used to eat here on our way down to the South of France on our family Summer holidays (and sometimes on the way back!) and, over time, it became the "official" start of our holidays proper. We went back for the first time in a few years last month. Time, like the river, had moved on. The fabric of the restaurant is in need of a little tlc although like the majority of the patrons we always prefer sitting on the Terrace for the fantastic views of the river, well over a hundred yards/metres wide at this point, and surrounding countryside. The menu, it has to be said, is not the most extensive or least expensive we've come across. However if you like consistency/familiarity it also appears to have changed very little, if at all, while we've been going there! It offers a West Indian flavoured approach, "specialites exotiques" to a number of dishes as well as more traditional French fare. The wine list offers four or five "wines of the month" usually all from the region and is good value. We ate from the 34 euro menu. They tailored the Salad Oceane to my wife's preferences and everything we had was very well cooked - as good as, if not better than, any previous visit. Despite it being a Saturday evening in the middle of July the restaurant was not over busy. I'm not quite sure why, although the toilets do have the strangest wall and ceiling coverings I've ever seen in such places! Service as ever was relaxed and friendly - our waitress even guessed (or was it dared?)my choice of Chicken Colombo for main course...it was exceptionally good I have to say.All in all it was a memorable evening; from the young girl extolling the virtues of the M25 to her family group - I kid you not -; to the fishermen young and old having great fun; to the cattle coming down to the water's edge to drink; to the stately river boat serenely cruising by as the moon rose - everything was delightful.
