We had a sensational dinner at Maison Mère; the service, ambiance and food were all truly 5-star. The room feels like a light and airy French farmhouse with open doors and windows letting in the (much-needed) Caribbean breeze, and soft lighting setting a romantic mood. Warm bread with basil oil was served to start, and we selected some delicious (and affordable) wines by the glass from their curated drink list. We tried the coconut tempura prawns with lemon sauce to start, which were so delicious and crispy, as well as the tomato, burrata and grilled watermelon salad with pine nuts. Following that we ordered two specials, a paper-thin pork tagliata with provolone over an assortment of mixed vegetables, and a shrimp and scallop risotto with asparagus in lobster sauce that was phenomenal—one of the most memorable things I ate the whole trip. For dessert, two French classics: crème brûlée and chocolate cocotte with salted butter caramel ice cream, all skillfully executed and quite delicious. Overall this is one of the very best restaurants on the whole island for fine French cuisine in a gorgeous setting, with friendly and attentive service.
