Bara Caribbean Cuisine

Already out of business these people had No Clue None the first week they opened they had to turn around shut down because of chronic mismanagement which they termed 'excess demand ' this happened numerous times and if you phoned ahead they could never be certain if they 'd be open on certain dates. The food wasn 't bad Trinidadian is mostly Indian food but no one there seemed to have put in a full day 's work ever and the people they hired weren 't trained at all.

Ordered:Guava J chicken with plantain (mild)OxtailSorrel drinkChicken potato pattie (pastry)Haven't had Jamaican for a long time despite it being a childhood staple. This place was great. I don't remember sorrel, but it was wonderfully spicy like a chai tea each infrequent sip felt novel.Everything was really excellent. The j was an awesome low level spicy that was full of flavour instead of heat. The plantain was very dry like a bread instead of moist like I'm used to.Definitely looking forward to ordering again! Ordered again and got the goat curry (mild). It was delicious and not too spicy, but not as amazing as the j or oxtail.

This is what I paied almost 20 bucks for. Maybe the most expensive chicken leg I have had in last 20 years. More expensive than fine dining for sure. Taste was okay. Chicken leg was precooked and soggy. I prefer fresh cooked food. And for 20bucks I thought they at least would regrill the chicken. Nope, directly from the bin into the plate .Despite the short comings, health standard seems to be okay.

Salt Fish bake was good, salt fish was very salty but the bake was super soft and fresh. I'm Jamaican and grew up in Toronto and have been dying to have authentic Caribbean food here in Vancouver. The curry goat was very bland, no gravy on the rice and such a small portion of goat. For $18, I would of passed.

You know when you eat a meal and you say to yourself “holy cow, that was exceptionally delicious”? Then you just keep saying “wow that was SO GOOD”, etc, etc? That is Bara ! I REALLY like the staff too. Good parking, cool part of town, nice clean place. I am definitely going to eat here again quite soon. Thanks everybody for incredible food ! Keep going :D
