Hyatt - Rowland Heights

Happy Harbor used to be our favorite dim sum restaurant in Rowland Heights but their dim sum quality got downgraded. Their dim sum prices range from small $4.88), medium $5.88), large $6.88), XL $8.99) to XXL $9.99). They charge tea price for $1.98 per person which is quite reasonable. We tried total 10 dim sum dishes 4 large, 5 medium and 1 small) and pork chow fun with salty fish. We were a bit disappointed for the dim sum quality this time. The skin of the Jumbo shrimp har gow, chiu chow style steamed dumplings, and steamed chives har gow were so thick. The one we didn't like the most was the pork chow fun with salty fish. They didn't give us much salty fish and the taste was so bland and lack of flavor. For the price we paid for $110 including tips), I didn't expect mediocre quality dim sum though. I can definitely find much better quality dim sum places in San Gabriel Valley especially Monterey Park and Alhambra area.

Pretty average Chinese seafood restaurant. Super high pressure server who couldn't speak much English. We wanted lobster and he kept repeating the same thing that it was a special that required other dishes to be ordered. Frustrating. Chow fun was totally meh. Lobster was fresh and they showed it to me before cooking (but it's not like I followed them back to see them cook it so I always think that's a scam. It was pretty good actually.

We've been here half a dozen times now for either dinner or dim sum. The food is almost always good but the service, charges and cleanliness are big issues. We ordered a large amount of food last time and just had water but they charged us a mandatory tea fee. It was quite upsetting but we got over it. Today we were the first ones in the restaurant for dinner and I went to the bathroom to wash my hands. There was a gentleman there at the urinal who finished up as I was leaving and while exiting I noticed he didn't wash his hands. Gross. I didn't think anything of it until I saw him put on an apron and went straight to the kitchen. We absolutely won't be coming back and I'll be escalating this.

Standard dim sum spot in Rowland Heights. Went on a Sunday and there wasn't a wait. Service was expected for a dim sum place and some dishes were better than others. I really liked the shrimp rice noodle rolls and the har gow add a lot of shrimp in it. The chicken wings were BOMB. I would skip the taro cakes they are not like the usual turnip cakes. We also got fried rice and beef noodles that were decent.

This place used to have a line out the door, but it's become less popular now. We went at 11am on a weekend, and while the main room was full, they still had extra back rooms open, so we were seated immediately.My mom got fed up with the cart dim sum places last time because they didn't have much selection and a lot of food was cold by the time we received it. Here, you order upfront, so your food should be hot when you receive it. I do think it's better to get it hot, but the problem is they deliver in a totally random order. One dessert, then one main course, and back and forth. By the time I got to my egg tart, it was no longer warm. I think next time I would ask them to please serve the sweets at the end. The service was actually very good on Saturday. They kept coming back to change our plates, brought lots of napkins and extra hot sauce, etc. Now for the food:Shrimp dumpling/hargow: while it was hot, it was not seasoned enough inside. It was too bland without hot sauce.Shumai: very good, super flavorful plump! Egg tart: flaky on the outside, a bit dryDuck: my family was a fan of this. It was nicely crisp on the outside, and juicy on inside.Charcoal egg yolk bun: this was cold by the time I ate it because they served in wrong order... i wish they'd just use a regular bun. The charcoal is so weird. Coconut pudding: these are shaped like adorable bunnies, but the flavor was bland. On the bright side, it's not too sweet, so it's a good treat for kiddos.
