Bidra med feedbackWe found this place by chance whilst browsing. The first thing we liked was that it seemed 'low key' yet all the tables seemed be be full of locals all tucking into a variety of Moules. As a table emptied we dived in and found that basically it concentrated on Moules with thin Frites in huge bowls. We order one lot with cream and another with curry (!) and both came accompanied with steaming bowls of frites which were filled up as the waitress passed. The food itself was great including the pudding 'Cafe Gourmand' (delicious) and the price was very reasonable. Service was very pleasant and just for info, the toilet was spotlessly clean. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Ps... we had our 7 year old with us who apart from munching away on my plate of modules, also tucked into the children menu which came with a drink and pudding. No complaints from him!!
We love mussels dishes with lots of fries, so we were in our element at Le Rocher. My wife was thrilled that, in addition to the usual varieties (beer, curry, etc.), Le Rocher has varieties using the popular local cheeses in the broth - Camembert and Roquefort. So she ordered the Roquefort, and loved it so much that we had to go back a second time. The four star rating is because the mayonnaise to go with the frites was from a package. If you wanted ketchup or mustard, also from a package. And once you squirted them out, if you didn't want to drizzle them over your frites (not my favorite thing), you had to hollow out a piece of bread to serve as your dipping bowl. The frites were of the string variety - not crisp, but good. And I have to give a shout out to their waitress - I forget her name, but she was Moroccan (a university student who would have rather been in Paris hanging out in clubs), and super-friendly and we loved chatting with her.
This small restaurant serves nothing but Moules et frites, in many sauces you could ever imagine - Camembert, Neufchatel, Lobster bisque, curry, carbonara....to name a few. You can change the frites to a green salad if you wish. Rue eau de Robec is a quaint street very close to the Abbaye St-Ouen. The ambience is pleasant, service friendly, very reasonable price, large portions.....can't ask for more. A MUST if you visit Rouen and a mussels lover.
At the time of our visit, they did not have the option to choose the size of the pot. I ordered the wine mussels, and hubby had the cream. Mussels were fresh and just the right size that I prefer. The server poured the juice to a bowl, and she said they are the only restaurant that does that. I like this extra step the restaurant takes to serve the food. I thought the taste was good but did not blow me away.
It's a small restaurant and at first glance you are not sure you have the right place. But if you are truly into mussels and just want to go wild, this is the place. They serve them any way you can imagine and they are full pots of delicious goodness. Unlimited fries and bread. That with the few beers we consumed as well, it was a perfect meal for my husband and I. The service as well was friendly and enjoyable. They have tables inside and outside and probably it's a good idea to call to be sure you can get a table, especially in season.
