Bidra med feedbackI was on a hiking trip doing village-to-village. Since on Sundays many places are closed in France I wasn’t able to shop lunch before I started the hike. The restaurant is on the highest point of the route and is open on a Sunday so I thought perfect. Until I reached it just into lunchtime: sorry but we’re full. No reservation made, you have to go. (outside there were plenty free tables) If you’re a hiker don’t count on them, they will send you away without food. Which is a disgrace when you’re the only place in miles of forest and hills. In the next village (Hunawihr, another 6km hike) there is nothing open on a Sunday, despite what is found online.
We went on the 2 hour 15 minute walk from Kaysersberg via the castle on a beautiful Autumn day. Spectacular views during the steep climb and then a long walk through forest to the restaurant. It was well worth the walk. Set menus involving a hearty vegetable soup to start, followed by various local dishes and a choice of 3 desserts to finish. Rustic surroundings and a real food experience at a really good price. One and a half hours to walk back via the access road.
Blink and you'll miss the sign at the end of Kaysersberg up the tiny, and its tiny, road to Saint Alexis restaurant. Close on Fridays, went on a Saturday around 1130. Halfway up you'll start thinking you missed a turn, a few minutes from the restaurant you'll finally see another small white sign saying you're going the right way. Large parking area, seating outside for about at least 60 people plus seating inside. We arrived about 15 minutes after a group of about 25 older hikers and a large group of Porsche club drivers sat down to eat. Still plenty of outside tables available so we had a table and space to ourselves. You overlook the chefs veggie and herb garden and enjoy the fact you found the place. Due to our getting there after 2 groups our lunch took about 2 hours. Since everything is cooked to order and the atmosphere is unique, who cares. Coq q vin and cheese omelette with perfectly roasted potatoes and spaetzle A small carafe of pino noir for the non driver. Great day, don't come here if you want a quick meal. Service was efficient and light on English, but it was all good and we made it work. Outside clean W/C. The prices were great for the food served. Excellent meal, casual atmosphere. Give it a try.
You really think that you taken a wrong turn, because it takes a while to reach the restaurant in the forests near Riquewihr in the Alsace. We went there for lunch en it was really nice. On the terrace outside, between the roses and herbs they use for the food. Very quiet and relaxing!
Weather was good so we had dinner outside. Service was good and the food was abundant and tasty. We had the urn soup followed by wild boar stew and **** au vin washed down with a glass of wine and for dessert fruit tart (cherry and raspberry). Great place up in the hills and worth the drive up out of Riquewihr.
