Good brunch with some interesting choices. The quality of the products is high and has a nice atmosphere. Not out of this world but a nice and decent place to go.
We were told that Terrella was the place for brunch in Porto these days, and decided to give it a try. We called during the week and booked a table for six adults and a child, for the following Saturday. The restaurant can be found right behind the Casa da Musica , by the Fundacao EDP new building. The room has plenty of light and is simply decorated but pleasant. The brunch costs 14 eur with a cold drink (wine, beer or oj) and a hot drink (coffee or tea). About the food, we must confess we were disappointed: not a lot of choice, although quality was fair. They had some starters and salads lettuce, grated carrot and tomatoes, chickpeas with cod fish and boiled egg, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, fritters, scrambled eggs (cold and hard), bacon and sausages, selection of cheeses and bread. There was an option of cooked meat and white rice. For dessert: pancakes, a selection of cakes and doughnuts, milk rice and jellies and fruits. In a nutshell, nothing to write home about! Unexpectedly, the Terrella seems to be very popular among families with babies and toddlers, although the menu, as explained, does not seem suitable for young children. Service was friendly, but waiters can be a bit more attentive, as we had to request water over and over.
Terrella was advertised to me as 'the ' brunch place in Oporto. In reality most of the clients there were having an early lunch, making the most of the 'all you can eat ' buffet. Although the staff were as accomodating as possible, it does not make up for sticky floors, defrosted food, canned grilled mushrooms, and flies everywhere. Reality is a far cry from the marketed image.
This restaurant is located in a modern building just across the road from the Casa da Musica. The restaurant is large, extending to two levels. When we were there on a Friday evening there were never more than six tables occupied. We both ordered monkfish with prawns and rice, which turned out to be an excellent dish, one we both enjoyed very much. However according to the menu this dish, which absolutely did not need anything else, required us to order two side dishes. We ordered green vegetables and a potato dish. The side dishes were served not with but before the monkfish dish and were really poor. If you eat in this restaurant my advice is to give the side orders a miss. Service in the restaurant was excellent, wine was reasonably priced and we were given a free bottle of water. The menu was available in English and the girl who served us , in additional to being very helpful, also spoke excellent English.
