COCINA “ EL BUEN GUISO”Once in a while you find a wonderful restaurant not in a tourist town or any town for that matter. At KM90 on the Puerto Vallarta - Tepic highway is one such restaurant, El Buen Guiso is just north of La Penita de Jaltemba on the Rivera Nayarit. As I drove by daily I always noticed cars parked in front and decided to go in for breakfast. Huevos con Nopales caught my eye and were delicious. The always smiling wait staff were great and able to answer all questions, while your hand made tortillas were readied for your meal, along with Cafe de Olla, no Nescafe in a jar here. Their pricing seems to be from 2010, here is an example of menu selections:All breakfasts were 35 pesos except omelets which were 40P.Comidas ranged between 40 to 65P, 2 smoked pork chops were 50P.With side dishes from 10P to 60P. A delicious hamburger with fries 45P.Most all shrimp dishes were 85P, most restaurants in town charge 140P.Fish filets any style at 75P while in town charge at least 120 to 140P...So today I am looking at the menu and I see Spaghetti for 10P, heck it is hard to find a street taco for 10P now a days, so I asked the owner if it was a misprint and she said no, that is the price and gave me a small amount to taste, could not believe it, spaghetti with a fresh tomato based sauce, I ended up having the regular serving for lunch and with 1/2 liter bottled water my bill was 18P plus a good tip...Owners speak perfect English .........
