Omei Restaurant - Richmond Hill

The dim sum at this restaurant is excellent. It is clear that they use only the highest quality ingredients. The soy sauce is even warmed up. It is these special touches that make this place stand out. Omei serves the best King Crab dishes. I eagerly anticipate Krab Season.

On a beautiful day, my wife and I had planned to enjoy Dim Sum on the outdoor terrace, but due to the empty restaurant and effective health protocols in place, we opted for an indoor dinner instead. This was our first indoor Chinese meal in over 6 months. Despite the limited menu options for just the two of us, every dish we ordered was a winner. The standout dish of the meal was the piping hot BBQ Pork Buns, which were expertly crafted with a crispy topping and a generous filling of delicious BBQ pork. In my opinion, this dish rivals those found in Michelin-starred restaurants in Hong Kong. The Har Gow Shrimp dumplings were as good as expected from a top GTA Dim Sum restaurant, with a thick yet translucent wrapper and a delectably sweet, crispy, and juicy prawn filling. My wife's favorite, the Shallow-fried, shredded Turnip Pancake, was slightly underseasoned but still had a pleasant texture and taste. To satisfy our craving for a crispy and spicy protein, we opted for the crispy fried free-range chicken, which was a luxurious addition to our meal. Overall, our Dim Sum lunch at OMei during the Covid era was a pleasant experience with a great selection of dishes. I would highly recommend OMei for anyone looking for exceptional Dim Sum. And now, we will monitor our health for the next 14 days as a precaution.

The food lacked flavor, portions were small, and prices were high. The service was also lacking and they expected more than a 15% tip.

Decide to have Chinese food for dinner on Christmas, since family dinner was on Boxing Day. Read a few reviews and thought Omei would be a great choice. Hope to have dinner delivered but we were just out of their 5 km range, so we...decided to pick up our order which was ready when we arrived less than 30 minutes after confirming our order. We ordered deep fried Won Ton, chicken fried rice, sweet and sour chicken and pineapple, steam rice, sauteed beef and broccoli with oyster sauce, honey garlic spare ribs and deep fried breaded shrimp with chips almost $100. From best to worse: steamed rice, won ton, chicken fried rice, beef and broccoli, breaded shrimp, sweet and sour chicken, honey garlic ribs. The ribs were virtually inedible, swimming in some greasy mess, no meat but lots of grizzlely pieces of cartilage. Threw the whole dish out. Did not order chicken balls, but that was what was passed off as the sweet and sour chicken. A dry box full of greasy, deep fried dough with small pieces of chicken inside. Some pieces of chopped peppers and onions were included in the box. Breaded shrimps were like the chicken, more batter than needed. Sweet and sour sauce was passable. The beef and broccoli was actually in a aluminium dish and may have been the best presented dish, too bad it did not meet expectations, but was a highlight in an otherwise poor experience. The chicken fried rice did have some chicken in it along with some chicken bones/cartilage as well. Steamed white rice was perfect. Will not return
