Bidra med feedbackOk I didn't exactly go just for the breakfast with the saw mill next to it for the record. The reason I went here for breakfast is that it's an old school truck stop stuck in a place in time which is long gone. This kind of truck stop has all but disappeared and replaced with big commercial chain fuel stops, big fancy flashy places. You know how diners try to recreate something from the past well this place doesn't do that because it never left, places pay money to look like something from the past. I was really going just for the experience of having breakfast in a place where my grandfather could have eaten breakfast at. The place has booths/tables around the window walls, old school U shaped lunch counter with the permanent round low stools. I was seated right away because the sign said seat your self and I did. Water and a menu came fight away but what would be fitting for a breakfast in this throw back in time, meat lovers skillet would work. The food came quick and looked like truck stop fare, nothing fancy. I liked that sourdough toast was an option but you could tell it was the white bread generic style of sourdough. The meat lovers skillet had golden hash browns which I liked, the bacon, ham and sausage pieces didn't have any big flavor to rise up in the skillet like some meat skillets do. The eggs were cooked perfect sunny on top but left on the grill too long because the bottom was golden and half of the yoke was hard on the bottom. Overall the skillet was about average and ok, not one of of the better meat lovers skillets that I have had from some places. I really wasn't expecting an over the top breakfast so I was not disappointed because I was really there for the whole old school truck stop breakfast experience.
This review is a actually a review of the Travel Center. I would have LOVED to go check out the restaurant and get some dinner, but, SOMEBODY was in a pissy mood and I was not so starving that I was willing to eat alone. The restaurant is open 24 hours a day as of this writing, and that, alone, is a huge bonus, especially as a truck driver. Lots of parking, too!! Always a bonus! They do have showers (just saw the sign, didn 't explore to see what they 're like). The ladies ' room is clean without being fancy. Great selection of local cheeses and sausages. People are friendly. I started to write this before reading other reviews, and now I wish I had left Mr. Grumpypants to stew in whatever had crawled up his butt and died. Seems like a place I would enjoy. I can 't wait to come back to Wisconsin!
Love love love this place. After 50 years it is closing and I will miss it so much. Food is delicious. Chicken club is a must try. Frank runs the shop and can fix your car or truck while you eat! When my power went out for several days, I used the showers there and they were always clean and smelled fresh. They also offer coin laundry. It's a great place for over the road truckers and will be terribly missed.
The restaurant here is actually really good! The fish fry ain't bad either. I've taken my car to the mechanic several times (locally owned and operated) and have always gotten friendly service at a reasonable price. If you're in the area or on your way up north, this is the place to stop at!
It's off putting at first cause it's at a truck stop. The food is great! It's cheap the place is clean. The service was good! I'll definitely be back
