Imposing and well preserved city gate. Former part of the mighty city fortification of the Reichsstadt Reutlingen. It was first mentioned in 1392 as a new gate and renamed to Gartentor in 1817.
The smaller of the two well preserved medieval town gates of Reutlingen. The Tübinger Gate is even more impressive, but the garden gate is more beautifully integrated into the adjacent rows of houses as a so-called side gate. There were 7 city gates in the city wall. The end of the 14th was mentioned for the first time, then as a new gate. It was only named in 1817 today. The Google entry that claims there is a restaurant in the tower is wrong: The tower is permanently closed and opens only on special days. At the bottom of the square is the Gasthaus Gartentor and Dany’s Eiscafe. In front of this inn you sit very nicely in the beer garden at the Gartentorbrunnen overlooking the garden gate.
The dishes are freshly prepared and delicious. The staff is friendly. In summer the beer garden is managed at the garden gate. The restaurant is located near the garden gate in the pedestrian area. The city centre is nearby and the bus stops only a few Metet. Greek specialities are offered. Change day offers. Prices are in the increased segment.
