This is one of my favorite sushi spots in the triangle. Every time I visit it’s a great overall experience. However, this time it took 40 min after my reservation to be sat. I called on the phone 2 hours before my reservation to add on one more person to our birthday reservation for two for a booth and the hostess said they should be able to accommodate that. When we come in 5 min early for our reservation at 8:30 neither hostess greeted us for 5 min and then when we approach the host stand to check in, she said it’ll be 10-15 min which was fine. I work in the food service industry so I understand configuring the floor plan for a holiday and overlap. The whole point of reservations are to be seated more prior than walk in guests. It’s just I assumed we could accommodate an extra person with our request for a booth in my reservation I made two weeks prior on OpenTable, but when she called us to our table 15 min after check in we get a 2 top banquette. I had to give away that our surprise guest was coming to get the booth we request which was another 15-20 min wait. Other then the front desk issue, everything else was much more delightful. The service and the food were amazing as always.
The table was not ready at the time of our reservation. We have to wait for another 10 minutes. The tables are very close with each other and are small. Although the food is good, I am not sure the overall environment can offer a good dining experience.
Highly recommend! The sushi is so rich, texturally interesting and flavorful. The sweetheart, Viking and volcano rolls were delicious and you can't beat the presentation-gorgeous, modern, romantic.
Best sushi in Raleigh! I've tried many sushi restaurants in Raleigh, and none compare to Ajisai.
