Bidra med feedbackIf you want a true Mexican homestyle experience make room in your travels to go and eat at this Mexican establishment . Favoured by Mexicans in Pitiall, you find out why as soon as you arrive at the front. Staff are carrying huge pots to the front filled with soup, tamales to be picked up by the locals on their way home from work. We were told that they sell out by 7 pm. Otole, , pozole, tamales, and tostadas, what to choose? We were fortunate to have our Mexican friend with us and she was able to explain the different dishes to. us. Because we were hungry, we chose the Americana combo which allowed us to try a variety of Mexican delicacies. The food was delicious and our Mexican friend said it reminded her of the dishes her mother and grandmother use to make.
There are reviews here that are upsetting; so let me comment on some of what was said. Tia Anita’s was a stop in the Vallarta Food Tour and although this place is open only on weekends, our guide helped us go on a weekday when all of the family was home making tamales. This is a family owned business passed down through 5 generations of Mexicans who make their living here. It doesn’t get more authentic than that. The family spends days shucking, slicing, and grinding corn, hand shredding meat, soaking the husks, to make 3,000 tamales a week. We watched the family working while we were set up with a table and our tamales were brought to us. We were the only ones there. If the lines are long and they quickly sell out, it is because the food is delicious. To those who say the food here is so so, I don’t know what happened to your palate. The chicken tamales here were the best I will ever have in this life time flavorful and SO FLUFFY! I have searched all of California, US for tamales and it is always hard and doused in sauce. Not here. The dough is light and airy and doesn’t even need sauce. The atol (cornmeal drink) was also a special treat. What a privilege to come here and experience this! Highly recommend. Cannot miss it.
We visited this restaurant, located in Pitillal, a non-touristy area of Puerto Vallarta, on a Vallarta by Road Food Tour (Vallarta Food Tours). Making tamales is neither quick nor easy, so it is not surprising that many restaurants do not make their own tamales, and many people don’t make tamales at home. On the tour we enjoyed fresh tamales—and would return to eat tamales again and try other items. Because the restaurant is open only limited hours on weekend evenings, check the schedule before going.
Me encanta la cena de ahí, pero los tamales y el atole están aún mas deliciosos!
PORQUE NO PONEN LAS VARIEDADES DE ATOLES Y TAMALES ???
