Bidra med feedbackHad a girls weekend in the county over the weekend. When looking for a lunch spot my friend and I were recommended to try The Courage from a neighboring restaurant. We entered and immediately loved the vibe of the place especially the service. Brunch did not disappoint. Its was unique and amazing. We ended up cancelling our dinner reservation elsewhere as we wanted to go back for dinner.Dinner was fantastic. Overall super super experience. Driving back to St. Catharines the following morning my girlfriend commented how she would make the 3.5 hours drive back there just to eat at The Courage and then drive back home. : )Can't say enough good things about this place. Perfect from start to finish.
Had lunch here with some friends. Though the price was a bit high, the food was very good. Just wish the servers were a little more friendly...
Five of us visited for lunch on August 5. We were greeted by the server who immediately told us they were seriously short-staffed due to their being a lack of local employable help and there would be a wait time. That was fine with us and we were seated. Our food arrived about 10 minutes after ordering and we were not disappointed. My Exquisite Grilled Cheese with poached pears, carmelized onions, goat and cheddar cheese was just that however the large portion of fries with it was extremely salty. A bit overcooked but ok, it was just abundance of salt. The order was also accompanied by a small bowl of spicy dipping sauce. Others in the party had the baked egg and the breakfast poutine and raved about it. We did not order from the bar so can't comment on that. The restaurant was about 3/4 full and there were two servers. Don't know how many there were in the kitchen. We had plans to go back again the next day for lunch to try other dishes based on the quality of the food. However, when the server came to clear some of the dishes, one of the party complimented her on how good the food was. Her response was - "I know" - and walked away. A few minutes later when she returned to clear more dishes another in the party repeated the compliment to see what the response would be. This time the server just made a face. It was our conclusion that if she was the manager it was no surprise why they could not get or keep help in a small town. If she wondered at the less than generous tip it was due to the attitude. While the food was excellent, if I was in Wellington again, I'm not sure I'd go back based on that alone which is a shame.
Went here for a bite due to everything else being very full. Seemed super cute so we poped in. The food portions are small. So do not go here if you are hungry. I got the steak and friets. My steak was bleeding and my "friets" were awful and not cooked all the way through. The ceaser taste like lemon water. I walked out starving and hoping I'd pass a pizza place on the way. Go anywhere else.
Another local restaurant turned us away for dinner service and a couple outside mentioned that if we were looking for dinner The Courage was the place to go. A minute walk west and we arrived at this gorgeous, ambient, no-attention-to-detail-spared bistro and the three of us grabbed a spot at the bar. Oliver is one of the most impressive bartenders I've met in recent memory - personable, knowledgeable, passionate. He picked up quickly on the fact that we love a really fantastic food/wine experience and came to the table (to the bar? haha) with suggestions for snacks, entrees, and cocktails/wine. Brussel sprouts were amazing and any restaurant that serves warmed olives is great in my books. We paired a fabulous "barnyard" red with the hangar steak frites, a veggie primavera pasta, and a vegan harvest-grain-mushroom-type concoction. Cocktail list is creative and Oliver is quick to iterate based on personal preferences. Chef/Owner Tyler came out to check on us more than once - so obviously passionate about his craft and incredibly committed to overcoming the obstacles of a tourist-heavy area and limited busy season. I'd drive out to The Courage from Toronto again and again.
