La Bussola - PORTOFERRAIO

Great casual Restaurant right on the sea. My wife and i split the house speciality which is homemade pasta with fruits of the sea. It was absolutely delicious and loaded with muscles clams octopus and a few other seafood meats that i couldn't identify, but they were all delicious. It was a huge portion and probably could have served my entire family. Friendly waiter that was very helpful.

This is a fantastic restaurant in Portoferraio right by the ocean and beach that my wife and I visited in July 2015. Exquisite seafood, wonderful gelato, pasta perfetto, and incredibly friendly staff. Not being used to Italian dining, my wife and I both ordered four courses from the menu. Unlike some other places we had eaten where each course was small, here each course was practically a full meal. The waiter was quite taken aback that we had eaten so little of our food, and due to our limited command of the language we had difficulty explaining that the food was fine but that we had simply ordered too much of it. He apologetically explained that since we had eaten some of the food from each course he could not give us a refund even though we had not asked for a refund or expected one. I highly recommend La Bussola for anyone looking for a place to eat in Portoferraio. I hope to be able to go back some day.

The view is breath-taking, but right at arrival our waiter was told off by the manager that he shouldn't welcome any guests without reservation. This aggressive yelling at the staff continued throughout the evening. On top of this, we tried to order food without gluten to our daughter, some meat and oven roasted potatoes, but the waiter was too afraid to take the order. He couldn't take the responsibility he explained. The boss took over, but at the end our daughter had to wait for over an hour to get her potatoes, long after the rest of the family had finished our meals.

Sunday lunch, menu I think tourist as part of an organized trip; superlative location, really on the sea! good food and drinks and portions in the average; apart from only coffee but at 1 euro therefore favor the price. only two improved things: cleaning of sanitation... and above all the too high voice of the owner in rebuking the staff; I don't know if wrong or right but the fact that hearing the entire clientele loses points. Oh, my God.

We had lunch in this place located behind the beach of the guineas. the friendly owner knows how to put customers immediately at ease, explains the courses with a passion and a transport you want to get everything. we ate fish-based courses, merit note for frying, crispy and not immature, in my opinion the best I ate at Elmba Island.
