El Pueblo Mexican - Portage

This place is my favorite Mexican restaurant. I get the Jilisco Special almost every time and you can tell it with love and care. Owners are great people too nice when you sit and really makes you feel welcome there. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal.

From the moment I went to this restaurant, I could almost say that I'm serving some gourmet life. My intuition was right, thank you. My friend and I quickly got chips and salsa on our stand. They served us a chip basket, a salsa container and two small bowls. I thought that was both creative and handy as it could be unpleasant to share a bathroom with someone else. The chips and salsa, apart from being comfortable, were so good! The mixture that the salsa had was right to my wishes. We blow salt and pepper on them to make for an even better vibe at the table. Now they were really hard to beat. Good luck for the next restaurant where I get chips and salsa! They even gave us a refill free later, so you can't really beat it. I ordered a diet Pepsi and a big (27oz. El Pueblo Kalk Margarita on the rocks. I ordered the El Pueblo Fajitas, which contained steak, chicken, shrimp, sawed onions, peppers and tomatoes. It was served with salad, acid cream, pico de gallo, rice and beans. I chose Maistortillas with mine. If you are planning to choose flour tortillas, maybe you would be better to make yourself at home, just fun. The diet Pepsi was really good and came with free refills. The Margarita was basically average. That was my only disappointment about her quality here. It needed more lime taste in my opinion. It tasted mainly of tequila and water. They put a lot of salt around the rim. The food came out very fast. It just seemed to take three minutes! The Fajitas were great! The portion size was abundant. The quality was on the top of the chart. Everything in the portion was juicy. Rice and beans were both a solid tasting. The whole meal was perfect. The service was pretty good. Our waiter was nice and very helpful. He made sure we were all right. Overall, the food is almost perfect here. I wish my Margarita would be better. Prices are average. I love this place! The food is great and the environment is even better! Sierra, Vanessa, Miguel, Jenna, Crystal, Angelica and Andrea are some of the best servers and people I've ever met in a restaurant! Bus drivers Xavier and Damien also treat you with respect and courtesy! The owner is a phenomenal woman who treats her customers and employees with kindness and care!

Definitely a great atmosphere. The servers have such great personalities and treat their regulars like family. They made sure my order was exactly how I wanted it, even though there were quite a few changes. I the way the food came out was absolutely delicious! I highly recommend stopping in and giving them a chance!! Oh& have a margaritas while you're there. I am not a regular drinker, so just having one to relax was lovely and they are delicious!!

The manager behaves in an extremely immature manner. I visited yesterday and overheard a customer asking for their food to be kept off the floor before it was served. Instead of addressing the concern, the server simply walked away. Then the owner burst out, shouting from the back to explain that the customers weren't yelling; they just spoke that way. To make matters worse, the owner proceeded to belittle a former employee and shared personal stories about that employee that had nothing to do with the current situation. It seems like there has been some public backlash regarding this restaurant, as they are receiving an unusually high number of reviews all at once, and I wanted to share my own experience.
