The wife I split a ribeye a lobster as there were no surf turf options on the menu (that we saw) on a Saturday night. The steak was melt-in-your-mouth-delicious. They had a live mariachi band singing around the restaurant that was terrific. Also had breakfast on both a Saturday a Sunday. The Sunday buffet was a bit pricey, but the food was tasty had many options. The view is lovely, the service was friendly attentive in both the restaurant bar every time we visited over the weekend.
I think the kitchen here can be very good and very creative. The clientele, in general, favors the usual American fare of steaks and overcooked seafood or Mexican food that 's been dummied down to suit discriminating US palates. I had two American breakfasts here that were included with my room rate. I love hues rancheros or Mexican eggs, and upon request, they put together a really nice meal: claras with chunks of fresh pepper and onions, chilaquiles, beans, avocado, and corn tortillas-no bacon or pancakes! For dinner, I had a decent green salad and a Mexican combination plate (taco, chile relleno, and enchilada). It was fresh made but I had to ask for the most excellent pico de gallo. There 's a small sports bar adjacent so the drink menu is more than adequate. The service is good, but there were few people in the hotel in January. You, apparently, can 't met mole or a good tamale here, but that 's not what the clientele wants. It must be crazy in the summer!
We had margaritas which were okay. And had a squid appetizer that was quite rubbery but the sauce was good.
My husband and a couple of our friends recently visited Azteca and we were quite disappointed. The restaurant was far from full, yet it took us about 5 minutes waiting to even be acknowledged by a server or host. We were set at a table far away from most other diners, I don't know why. We were dressed very nicely and were polite. We asked for Cadillac margaritas and the ones we were served tasted like only sour mix. My friend ordered a second one that looked completely different from the first one. When we asked the waiter about it, he completely dismissed us. I ordered the lobster and it came out VERY tough. Would not recommend.
