This is the second time I tried ordering on their online form. Since I didn't hear anything I emailed to make sure they got my order. Nope, they didn't get it so they didn't make it. So I have to run around looking for a decent cake not store bought for my moms birthday. What's the point of the online order formula then? ??? Done trying with place.
Sweet Emmas did an absolutely wonderful job creating a delicious vegan cake for my kid's birthday. They recreated the exact image I had shared for a rainbow cake and added their own flair and it was liked by many. Absolutely gorgeous!The customer service was great with Deborah responding to my emails even late into the night. They are busy baking through the day so it makes sense. Highly recommend this place.
Very good! Got a few cupcakes. Cookies and cream, red velvet and strawberry. Really tasty and light and not too sugary. Cookies and cream was my favourite. Will definitely go back and try other flavours.
Continuation of Review/Edit from Kirsten Balanza…In this nasty email, Deborah (who wasn’t present for the interaction) accused my husband of being “abusive,” “rude,” and “intimidating.” The email ended with her stating that he was no longer welcome into their store, which my husband already said he wouldn’t be doing because of their poor customer service.My husband replied to this email by stating that these terms, especially “abusive” were not terms he takes lightly and that throwing them around nonchalantly were irresponsible and threatening. Not once did he use inappropriate language, nor was he screaming, unprofessional, or demeaning in his interaction with Emma. In his response email, he asked them to expand and give examples of when he was abusive, which they are unable to do as this never occurred.While my husband wrote his response email, I left a poor review on Google, to which they responded to by saying they “met us halfway” by giving us 2 cupcakes. If you read the first part of this review under Kirsten Balanza, you’ll see that this is a generous stretch of the truth. Also, they again say that my husband was being rude and intimidating. How? By asking how your business would rectify a mistake on their end? Please elaborate on these trigger words that you throw around so freely. Also, describing Emma as being a “young woman” is an exaggeration as she is in her mid thirties (no judgements).Deborah then went even lower and responded via email insinuating that we were not affluent enough/poor because we wouldn’t let the $16 slide and shouldn’t be purchasing premium cupcakes. Also, that I was “chirping in” (their words used in the email) by leaving a poor review.Side note: I was on the receiving end of these overcooked cupcakes and am entitled to give a poor review.Long story short, Deborah and Emma Meade can not handle criticism. If you look at all of their responses to negative reviews you will begin to see a pattern. They use the “small business” excuse and are extremely defensive and condescending, even when in the wrong. They claim to meet customers halfway on situations that they should be providing full refunds/replacements. If they can not handle unsatisfied customers with professionalism, perhaps they should look into another line of business. Please note that not once did we receive an apology from anyone from Sweet Emma’s for the poor products or experience. Not in the initial phone call, in person interaction, or emails. They are incapable of owning up to their mistakes as you can clearly see in all of their responses to their poor Google reviews.To consumers, please consider supporting another small bakery in the Durham Region there are many great and alternative options.
