Bidra med feedbackI like eating...a lot. and this has to be without a doubt the best family run Chinese restaurant I have ever eaten at. I usually get the General Tao chicken on steamed rice - there hasn't been a place I've been able to find that makes Chinese food like this place. The restaurant has been around for well over ten years now and there's a reason why. The staff is also super friendly. Ask for the L13, you won't be disappointed!
The food is so so on a good day. They are consistently the same and it is generally OK. Delivery is long at times. The owner is rude and does not take responsibility for mistakes on the order. Do make sure if you order from there to check all your food before payment. Especially if you are vegetarian. They like to put meat in. The owner likes to play blame game. So needles to say, for a 10$ dish they have lost a customer. Also concerned with criss contamination, the place always smells like bleach or some chemical. The Japanese food restaurant in the same Plaza is a much better choice. they are always fast and friendly. ..
I have gotten food from here several times. It looks like a regular Chinese take out place, not a gem. I dont really like the food too much, however take out shops for Chinese food are very few in Pickering. The only thing I do like is the wonton soup. It does have shredded bbq in it - as a caution to those whom dont eat pork. I would not recommend the sweet and sour chicken, its just slapped together and it doesn't have the nice rich red sauce, its a malnourished orange colored sauce.
I have eaten dragon gem a few times and every time i feel sick after it is full of msg and sugar. Cheap and lunch specials are priced right .
When the boyfriend and I get Chinese, it's always from Dragon Gem. We have one special that we order and it is big enough for the both of us to share. The sesame chicken and sweet and sour chicken dishes are great. It is bursting with flavour and inexpensive for 2 to share. We usually upgrade a couple things and it still comes to around $12 with taxes.
