This is our go-to place for dinner, a special occasion or a place to entertain friends and family. The food is wonderful and the owners and staff make everyone feel like their family. Sometimes we're even called by name from waiters who aren't even waiting on us that day! Truly a gem
I had high hopes for Bistro Rollins. A fellow Foodie highly recommended it but I left less than impressed. First off, this was Saturday night and I made a reservation for four. I expected to first enjoy a drink at the bar but no such luck. When we arrived, a woman, pacing and talking on the phone, perhaps the owner?, quickly announced that our friends were already seated and escorted us to the WORST table, at the very back of the restaurant. Yes, I should have objected but she scurried away. Did I mention that the restaurant was empty? What I saw of the place, looked French country charming, but my view consisted of staring at an ugly back wall, with two doors embossed with large private signs. To make it worse, the back room never filled up. To make it even worse, shortly after we were seated, a man was seated at the equally awful table across from ours but the woman/owner/maitre de thought better and moved this four top to a better table. Maybe they were locals? A family of four soon got the second worst table in the place. Drinks rate an excellent, Served cold and well mixed. Bread was pathetic. If you put out a bread basket, the quality better be good. Service was inattentive. Food was inconsistent. To be fair, my fellow diners enjoyed their meals. I ordered salmon. I get it, not very imaginative but that's what I had a hankering for, cooked medium rare. Any self respecting restaurant ought to have this dish down cold. I joked with the waiter to please make sure that the fish was not overcooked. The salmon arrived overcooked to a fault. Let's face it, if you're paying $30 for a simple salmon dish, it better come out cooked perfectly. I had to flag down a different waiter to get my meal replaced. It's hard to enjoy your dinner when everyone else has already finished. Naturally no apology, but I didn't expect it. The initial greeting set the tone. I'd be hard pressed to return. After all first impressions count.
This wonderful wonderful restaurant is closing!!! It is one of the few best French Bistros in and around NY. It has been a gem and consistently excellent. It will be missed so , so , so much!
My family and I have so enjoyed dinning at Bistro Rollin for many years. We are so sorry it is closing. The food continues to be great but the service is slipping a bit maybe because the end is near. It is still worth a final trip.
