Pumpernicle German Bakery - Pauri

Restaurant is nice and have ok food that takes too long to be served.bottom line is that its much more popular than tasty.. they have good rooms for stay on the upfloors.problem is that the lady who runs this place dont understand much about making her clients feel satisfied. basically she gives you the feeling that she does not care about nothing but your money. would not come back

Firstly anyone complaining about flies and animals (seen in other reviews for this establishment) clearly doesnt belong in India. I've had the vegan Brownie and the cheesecake. Both were soft and fresh, unlike other bakeries I've visited in Rishikesh with stale mediocre product. I didn't sit down but it's a great place to grab dessert to bring back to the hotel.

Ok place for tourists who like to have vegan or veg options and good view. We have been there for a couple of times and have seen cockroach in the cake display and one waiter told us to wait for 5 min for 1 fork after we have recieved the food. The place could be cleaner and the service could be better.

Pumpernickel German Bakery next to the Laxman Jhula post office is a safe heaven, when you want to get away from the indian craziness - you know the loudness, the hazzling and the dog kicking, cow beating scenario. And all travelers have those moments, no matter how much they love India and how long they have been there.Firstly, Pumpernickel has a great menu - mostly European food, so many choises, and even some gluten free and vegan stuff (not very common at all in India). The menu covers everything from breakfast to dinner and deserts, with the front cabinet being full of cookies, cakes, pies, strudels, and my all time favourite: Reases peaces chocolate balls… aaah!!! From the downstairs bakery there is a great view over the Ganges and some nice dogs are welcomed to step in and they are greeted with love and some snacks. The owners really understand how to handle the animals. In so many places in India, I have seen dogs being handled with sticks and stones, which makes dogs (and pretty much all animals) of course dangerous and defensive. But not here. My nine year old son wanted to visit Pumpernickel every day for the reason, that ”they are so nice to us and nice for the animals too”, as seeing animals suffer is very upsetting for him.We sat there hours sometimes, and nobody ever asked us to leave and make space for other customers. The wifi is really good too (not taken for granted in India).Upstares there is a bigger restaurant with a separate kitchen and a loft where they show films from a big screen every evening at 7 pm. If you come before 7, you can even choose which film you want to see. The staff and the owners are super nice, and take the time to make sure you’re happy with everything. The atmosphere is really nice and comfortable and after you have visited the place a few times, everybody there start to feel like a friend. And if you want proper coffee, this is the place. They have a huge coffee maker, the one you see in Starbucks and Costa Coffees.I highly recommend Pumpernickel not only for all coffee and cake lovers, but to everyone who wants to relax and chill with an open heart, make friends with other travelers, hug a cute puppy sometimes and just feel at home.

The owner is really crazy and she doesn't have manners. I made a mistake about my order (they put badly the prices on the bakery products and so i thought to order somthing for 40rupees while it was 80... but it was a nice cake so ok!). For this mistake, when i went to pay I didn't have with me 30 rupees for the right amount and I proposed to come back just later, I have to say that they know me from Leh 4 months ago). When I came back to complete my payment I remembered I had to give 30 but the owner said 50. The mistake was not to write on a receipt what money was missing about my bill, but I of course I didn't think about this for a so small amount. I said her I was sure it was 30 but maybe it could be a wrong conviction by me and so I paid 50 as she said. I just payed but said to her that I remember different, and suddendly she goes crazy!! She told me that all mistakes were mine for sure and that God was there to say she was right and I was wrong. She cried that I wanted to cheat her (for 20 rupees!?!?!? Oh my God). And then she treated me as a poor one, saying to everyone that I didn't have enough money to pay my bill (while it was simply a mistake, as even she said before).I will never come back in that place. The waiters are nice, but the owners are presuntuos and greedy and with no manner to treat with people. Also we speak a different language, I tried to make her understand that maybe it was also a misunderstanding between us, but she went on to cry against me for 10 minutes. Really really incredible.There are better place here in Rishikesh and also in Leh to eat good food at reasonable price, and also gluten free.
