If you want to blow up a cork in a suggestive environment where you can breathe history and flavors, the picone wine shop is an address that does not betray. you can also sip wines at the bar, or buy gastronomic specialities from local producers. the competence, grace and attention of the service are a guarantee, here you can get a courteous and punctual advice on bottles to bring home or to animate tables on great occasions the local knowledge of the wood, emanates knowledge on the nectar of the beak and establishes with the customer a sensory path. a look at the walls covered with bottles.
Very vast cellar, if you are looking for exclusive and sought after spirits from picone you can find what you are looking for
A good choice of wines available to drink in with a €8 corkage policy for any proved bottle, which is very fair. If you don't want the whole bottle they do open bottles up to €40 for you to have a glass and then charge the corkage per glass (basically €2 a glass) We went in initially at midday to try some Sicilian wines as we are not familiar with this particular wine region and enjoyed a couple of glasses with some bread and lovely olive oil, we then went back the following evening, having booked a table (it can get busy in the evening, so worth booking) and enjoyed their charcuterie platter. We chose the medium, €20 which was excellent and as you'll see from the photo, plenty for two people. They serve nice wines in the appropriate Riedel glasses, which for me is another big tick. Friendly knowledgeable service, they remembered us when we came back, which is a nice touch. It is a little walk from the centre of Palermo, but worth it and under a mile.
This is an unusual establishment part 'off licence ' and part restaurant but we came here twice for a drink and a snack. Some really interesting beers and wines to choose from and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful
From the reviews I was envisaging a cozy place to try and buy high quality wines with accompanying delicacies. I checked their website and they seemed to stock most of the local Sicilian wines I was interested in, plus their website stated they sold local pasta, olive oil and condiments. I deliberately didn’t buy any wines during my stay in Sicilia to stock up here before my flight home. Walked half an hour to an out of the way street in the early evening. I was the only customer and asked about some wines I was interested in purchasing and started putting some condiments I was interested in buying on the counter. They have a huge selection of local and foreign wines but surprisingly not some classic Sicilian wines. I was therefore mulling my options about what to buy disappointed at not finding what I had set out to buy. The selection of condiments, olive oil and pasta (only two types from the mainland and one from Sardinia), was also poor. The cherry on the cake was when an Italian man walked in and started asking about wines and the server then spent time helping him and packing his purchases. The customer apologized for “interrupting me”. Actually, he barged in demanding service and server gave it to him. Apologizing for bad behavior doesn’t make it okay. Waited five minutes, then put what I had set out on the counter to buy back and left. Found several Bottega Alimentari (try Cassaro or A Ma Che Bonta) on Cordo Vittorio Emanuele (a central pedestrian streets steps from the Cathedral) that sold high quality wines, condiments and local dried pasta. I’d recommend tourists go there instead of Enoteca Picone.
