Mexicali Rosa's - Ottawa

I'm so happy its back! My husband and I went for some lunch fajitas and were pleasantly surprised. I found the meat, veggies and sauces they provided actually better than my beloved lone star. The wraps weren't quite up to par, but who can beat lone star on that. For dessert we had deep fried ice cream and my husband hasn't stopped talking about it since. He's angry at me for having show it to him because he's now thinking about it too often. They deep fry their ice cream in cinnamon coded crispies. It's something truly unique and spectacular. We had the caramel ice cream. <br/ <br/ My only issue is the dinner pricing. We went for lunch which was reasonable but dinner prices are pretty high. I don't think I would go for dinner.

Had a great time on patio for dinner with friends, food was great, service was great…but, drinks were very weak, the sangria had a taste of old wine! The manager wouldn’t let a guest try a small sample of the sangria, so the entire drink ended up being returned instead. The margarita picture was $30 and contained way too much ice?? Maybe that’s why there were no patrons in the dining room and only two or three tables on the patio. However, it could also be the fact that they did not properly validate your parking ticket and you end up with a cost despite the restaurant, saying they paid two hours of parking. The parking attendant told me that the restaurant only covers $6.50. However, my same table friends did not have to pay a cent so I was given a one time exception.

Mediocre, expensive, slow service. The twelve layer dip was sad, it came with only nine chips so I had to resort to a fork.

Overall average. Nothing was fantastic nor was it terrible either. Service was okay. Prices were fine for what we ordered. We also were on the outside facing the street, so didnt get the views on the lake.

We had the chicken nachos and the beef tacos. The food was a bit underwhelming. Good service. The place was not busy thus lacking in ambiance. Parking is not available near the restaurant.
