La Marea - Old Saybrook

My wife and I went for dinner here with another couple on October 2nd and loved it. The service and ambience were wonderful. The owners take a front and center role in this operation and it shows. The wait staff is highly trained and were all great. The chef could be seen working with his crew in the open kitchen as soon as we walked in the kitchen is immaculate and everyone is in whites, and all moving at a fast and efficient pace. And, everyone was smiling. We had the swordfish special and the chicken with arugula. The swordfish was the best that I have ever had, and my buddy, who ordered the same thing, felt the same way. Our wives had the chicken which was also delicious. This chef knows what he's doing and it shows. We'll be back!

The food is significantly overpriced and the owners are unkind, lacking in sophistication. I would not recommend this restaurant.

I absolutely adore this cozy restaurant, from the owners to the servers to the chefs. Every time I come for lunch (which is quite often), I see the owners chatting away in Italian at the bar, and it brings back memories of my grandmother's kitchen table. It always lifts my spirits! The service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is inviting. The recommended dishes are Lasagnette Al Ragu, Fettuccine Bolognese, Scallops, Calamari Fritti, Cheese Appetizer, Tiramisu, Margherita Pizza, Insalata Tricolore, Linguine Alle Vongole, Butternut Squash Soup, Mousse Au Chocolat, Caesar Salad, Pizza Quattro Stagione, Gnocchi Autunnale, Charcuterie Plate, Polipo Alla Griglia, Gnocchi Alla Sorrentina, Cheese Pizza, Veal Valdostano, and Fresh Pappardelle with Sauted Eggplant.

Friendly staff and owner! Made our sister feel special for her birthday and accommodating with my vegan diet.. lovely atmosphere!

Service 10/10 and the owner personally came around to ask how our meal and experience was and we could tell be truly cared about making sure his customers were happy and satisfied!
