Some years ago, I had the best gumbo I ever put in my mouth at Emeril Lagasse’s NOLA, in New Orleans. These days, the chef who concocted that gumbo is making even more delicious stuff at a little stand in the Booth’s Corner Farmer’s Market in Boothwyn, PA, just a few miles outside Wilmington, DE. Don Applebaum’s gumbo is still stellar, and he also makes the most amazing deep fried macaroni and cheese with spicy Creole tomato glaze. Don’t miss the po’ boys, particularly brisket, oyster, and soft shell crab, and remember to grab either beignets or bread pudding for dessert.
