I got soup, chicken in green sauce, salad, rice, a small dessert, and juice for $60 pesos. The other options for the day were fried chicken and nopal tamales (vegetarian). Maybe based on the last review, one of the waiters insisted on speaking to me in English. The other waiters only spoke Spanish but were very polite. I was well attended and would eat there again for lunch.
I popped into this cafe for a bite to eat becuse it is just down the street from Casa de Don Pablo and I was feeling a little hungry before going back to my room for a quick shower. My first mistake. The only interesting aspect about this little cafe was the Mexican woman making fresh tortillas. Other than that I felt this place was a complete waste of my time. Not one person who worked there spoke any English and I do understand I am traveling in a foreign country. My "gringo" Spanish is good enough for me to go into any number of restaurants and carry on a simple conversation and certainly good enough to order a meal with beverage. Not so here.Amore Cafe does not have a menu and the waiter spoke way too fast for me to catch on or comprehend what he was saying. Simple items like pollo y cebolla tacos (chicken taco with onion) were not available for purchase. No carne asada (grilled beef) tacos, even a bottle of cerveza was beyond what they could offer. The waiter had to go across the street to a local la tienda (store) to buy a couple of beers. 10 minutes later he returned to serve me a beer. While I was there a lady from Canada strolled in and she spoke even better Spanish than I did, but she had a hard time getting anything good to eat. We both settled for potatoe tacos which were less than satisfying.A final note. If you speak flawless Spanish and you love very hot sauce then they have a very hot chile, tomatoe sauce/salsa that you might want to try. I do love a good hot, hot sauce and this one had a ton of flavor. The first spoonful packed a great big punch of flavor followed by an intense burn. Silly me, I went for 3 more servings. By the fourth spoonful, I could handle no more and was very glad I had a cerveza on hand.Anyway...I would not recommend this eating establishment as it seems geared toward local residents only. Good luck if you decide to pop in for a bite.
