L'embargo 2 - Nuits St Georges

We had lunch here and probably the worst food experience ever. Nice restaurant, friendly service but the food was just so bad, I have no words for it. The pizzas tasted sour and awful. But even worse was the pasta. My daughter`s pasta was a puddle of stale cream topped with bacon, swimming in bacon fat and a stale poached egg.. My pasta must have been the Chefs attempt to clean the kitchen leftovers by putting half a liter of stale cream over dry, smelling chicken pieces, old mushrooms and stale pasta. And all that for 62 EURs including two cokes.

We ate at this restaurant as it was close to our bed and breakfast accommodation on a stop over whilst travelling south. When we got there it was pretty crowded (which we took as a good sign), and we got the last table for two in the main restaurant. There was only one waitress, so we had a bit of a wait before she took our order, but was most apologetic when she did get round to us. My wife had a pasta dish, which was nice but quite large and rich, and she couldn't manage it all. I had the homemade lasagne, which was also large but was utterly delicious, so I kept going until it was finished! For reasonably priced pizza/pasta, I don't think you'd get much better.

We always eat here on our journeys home. A good pizza with generous toppings for 10 Euros suits us very well. It is friendly helpful and has four dining areas, two of which are outside, one shaded and one sheltered. But it is their red Bourgogne wine that we love. 16 Euros for half a bottle is not cheap drinking, but the taste is truly wonderful and revives us after a long day at travelling. It is our little it of luxury at the end of a hole day and we really look forward to it.

I ate at this restaurant with my family while on a lay-over on our way to southern France. We were looking for a pizza place, this place was recommended to us by the owner of the hotel we were staying at. We enjoyed the attractive setting outside in the shade. Service was very friendly and very prompt. the pizzas were not the best we've eaten. Too moist and way too much cheese but I guess that's a matter of personal taste. Would I recommend it to a friend ? Yes. Would I return ? Yes, but not for pizza next time.
