Despite being the only diners, the patio doors were strangely closed, creating an odd atmosphere inside. The Sunday roast was typical, with beef, Yorkshire pudding, and roast potatoes. One of our group opted for a Caesar salad with olives, as they did not eat meat. The main draw was the organic vegetables grown on site. When we requested olive oil for the veggies, we were informed that it went against National Trust policy to serve it, as it was not locally sourced. This caused some confusion, as other non-local items were on the menu. This policy, while unexpected, did not surprise us, given our past experiences with the National Trust. The staff were polite and simply following the rules.
We had a fantastic day at Felbrigg Hall. The house is definitely worth a visit and the usual National Trust facilities were good. However, the highlight of Felbrigg Hall is the extensive hiking trails. There are trails for all levels of hikers and most paths are well-maintained. I recommend Felbrigg Hall to visitors of all ages as there is something for everyone to enjoy. I also want to give credit to the knowledgeable and welcoming volunteers at the house. The Trust properties are beautiful, but they wouldn't be the same without their dedicated volunteers. We will definitely be visiting again.
We began our experience in the gardens, which were lacking in flowers due to the early time of year, but still pleasant. It would be lovely to return in the summer when more blooms are in full bloom. The house itself was stunning and had an incredible backstory. We were delighted to find a pianist playing when we arrived, although I'm not certain if this is a regular occurrence. Overall, definitely a visit worth making!
That is a beautiful NT property. the house is fascinating, the leaders are knowledgeable and everything is beautifully preserved and presented. there is the largest and most extensive planted walled garden I have ever visited, the baptisms and chickens that float over the place are great to see. the area is extensive, we have made the walk around the church and the ice house. that is national trust.
Beautifully walled garden, well planted and well maintained. a fantastic reception from the dame at the entrance of the garden. the house was also interesting. beautiful restaurant. all staff were friendly and knowledgeable. a very pleasant visit.
