We have not been driving for almost a decade to Norderney and a visit to the cornelius is also part of it.In the last few years the quality had already been appreciably reduced for us, this time we were disappointed!The cake after the day tasted unfortunately not at all (bluebeerstreusel tasted once after nix, cheese cream was also rather flat in the taste,) there are on the islanders arrived at the bottom, I was flooded by flying, under the stairs well visible lay a blue mull bag. whether a visit for me is still worth it? On 03.08.17 my wife and I spontaneously decided to take our dinner in the cornelius. as we spent the whole day 100 m away on the beach we risked a look and it looked very nice - glazed outdoor area, open kitchen open in the inside (although with odour problems - in times of BORA withdrawal systems actually unnecessary).As a feed we shared the hot smoked salmon, as a main dish it should be the calfsback (shoulder) for this, the choice fell on the salt meadows lapels with speckböhnchen and (choice) bratkartoffeln as well as the rumpsteak with salat insert and optionally with Pommes frites. The lamb - a dense, pink and delicate, the speckböhnchen crisp, with fried pork cubes and a hauch of sosse. the frying in a small porcelain peel. the steak also - English, chess, with aromen of rosmarin. frying included. the whole thing on the sunset terrace - so one night should look at norderney.Who could have guessed that our eating with friends on yesterday's Sunday evening should be the exact opposite. "Laugh is good," says the friendly guide at handing over the card. that was also true for the calves and the bark fillet. ok, umplanen: 3 x Salt meadows lambs and once labskaus as a speciality of the house. table on request in the interior, in purchasing the kitchen. then came the lamb, although pink, but now with a crust (not definable) the meat was marinated for too long, fried and then made hot, maybe baked with the crust? that was not freshly roasted. completely salted, the little ones - soft boiled - swept in a kind of bechamel sauce. the frying watery, without any tasteful substance and raffiness. the red bete to the labskaus was from the glass, no spicy cucumber, for it a (!) mirror and an exquisite Matjes-Filet (real!) that was. as a dessert I ordered a nut cup. the MÖVENPICK emblem on the ice map promised: that cannot be lost.DOCH, this manship creates even the impossible. a handful of old nuts in a high glass, three balls provided with ice crystals on it (a sort of undefined fruit aroma that does not harmonize at all with the nuts) and spray cream on it. that's it.After our visit on Friday in the seabed, it was like a step into it. there is also a nice sunset on the terrace nothing to save.Other guests got alcohol-free wine instead of weizen ("is not so bad") and the whole room could attend the loudly played contest of one cook with the other three cooks. it was a round picture that moved us to visit from others - at least in the season 2017 - to take distance.I wish the sympathetic owners a happier hand than this year in their efforts. the position on the beach would have deserved better.
The cornelius is a beach restaurant classic with appropriate views. Accordingly, it is more casual, sandy and looser. eating is beach restaurant and as good as possible, the service is easy. the price-performance ratio is mediocre, some of which we feel too expensive.
