Bidra med feedbackWe booked for Oude Wellington based on the ratings and arrived to find Bar Bar Black Sheep which has bad rating and rightfully so. The food that you are paying a premium on all tastes like it was made in a factory, lacking taste and any sort of excitement. The risotto wasn't cooked through and for the first time in my life I asked for salt in a restaurant as it was so insipid in flavour, the bitterballen were deepfried mush and in some cases just deepfried breadcrumbs with no mush, the samoosa's were anything but lamb boboeti and tastes like they came from a bad mass produced box, and the fishcakes nothing to write home about. The only redeeming factor was the friendly waiter, although he too was hard to find even though there were only 3 tables full on the night.
Good service (although a little slow), interesting environment. The starters we had were exceptional, especially the squid. But for the main course the pork meat balls transformed themselves into rather tasteless breaded pork chops. A serious disappointment after such a promising start. We will try it again here, but the jury is out.... Update: we came back for lunch: service slow, food very ordinary. Fishcakes dry and bland, sardines unexceptional. Sad, I thought this place had promise.
This was for me a unique experience, not that the food and the wines were the best but because they were the most unique. You arrive in a very colorful wooden house, just like an attic or a Beatles CD cover. From tables to walls, everything tells a story. In your plate, everything is local, in your glass, small producers wines with the funniest descriptions. It's always hard to find a complete wine list that will tell you what's in your glass, here once you start reading it, you could go on for each wine just as when you read a cartoon, it's entertaining and instructive. Good price to quality, entertaining.
To start, we ordered bitterballen, which had a tasty fried crust and a delicious meat filling. For my main course, I opted for the sirloin topped with Parys kaffee butter. The meat was incredibly tender, practically melting in my mouth, just like the butter that accompanied it.
A fantastic find in Wellington! They serve the best cakes and cappuccinos.
