Bidra med feedbackI found this great hole in the wall restaurant on my way to the VPS airport thanks to Yelp. It's a sit down eatery with very kind and attentive staff. I dined in for an early lunch and was surprised how busy it was. While it is smallish inside the tables and booths have plenty of space in between. I ordered the lunch special, Marci Gras Po Boy and side of Red Bumpo soup. There are several side options available. Both were delicious, filling and well presented. Everything about the PO Boy was excellent: bun was soft and tasty, they use mixed greens instead of shredded iceberg lettuce or romain--a huge improvement imo, large grilled shrimp, large tomato slices and a unique homemade sweet and spicy sauce. The soup was also unusual; I believe it is a combination of red beans and rice with gumbo. Already mentioned, but extra praise should be given to the waitresses. Two of them regularly checked on me with perfect timing (and it was busy).
I don't get it. I read the reviews here and on other sites and I don't get it. This little place is a bit hard to find and surprisingly big compared to how it looks on the outside. The waitress was really nice and the atmosphere cool. I ordered soup and a fish dish. My soup came right away and looked like it had been microwaved you know how when you microwave soup the oil causes specs on the top? Yeah that look. That said, the soup was good. The fish I ordered seemed fresh (but then again it's FL it better be fresh), but the meal itself was just okay. The rice was undercooked or maybe that was microwaved as well. The sauce was way too oily and the large plate filled me up only 1/4 of the way through. So, it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't really my idea of a good meal.
Although they are closed for remodeling and reopening with a new name they have a taco food truck in the parking lot and I must say AMAZING food great portions at a very reasonable price. This is a must try for sure.
This is strictly a happy hour review because I have not been here for a sit down dinner. I have had the fish tacos, the boneless wings , the gumbo, mardi gras shrimp and I will be back and have them all again. Plus I'm a wine drinker and I like their house Chardonnay; $3.00 on happy hour. Nuff said.
In town on business and decided to try this place out at about 7:45 on a Wednesday night. I was initially concerned because the place was practically empty only one other table with patrons that I could see but I was greeted promptly and received friendly service throughout. I had the seafood Nantua which is a grilled white fleshed fish (most likely the species changes based on what is available) on a bed of rice covered with crawfish bisque and several grilled shrimp. I felt the fish was cooked nicely and the bisque made for a nice and creamy sauce. Overall it was well seasoned but I would have added a few dashes of crystal hot sauce if I'd had any in my bag (swag). Again, service was nice and the food good overall. The place itself looks sketchy on the outside and, being honest, the inside was a little sketch too. Enjoyed my meal though!
