Bidra med feedbackI've never eaten Persian (Iranian?) before. It reminded me of Georgian food, which is known as the table scraps from heaven. We had persian kebabs, a salad of tomatoes and so forth cut up small and seasoned with something yummy and tart, and a meatballs in walnut and pomegranite sauce, both of these came with lovely long grain rice. All perfectly cooked, and delicious.
I came here with my partner for lunch as I had just been into a Japanese restaurant nearby and it was just too hard to make them understand my gluten free requirements. The owner, Reza, made us feel very welcome and we received cold water on arrival. He understood straight away about my gluten free requirement and advised that all of the food was gluten free. I had the lamb shank and salad. I actually asked for additional salad as I wasn't having any rice (carb free as well) and a whopping big salad came out in a bowl with the lamb shank on another plate, all presented on a rectangular piece of black slate. (very pleasing to the eye) All I wanted on my salad was balsamic vinegar - I think it may have been red wine vinegar but it was really nice. The lamb shank was tender and the reduction was lovely - tomato based but I think it had a hint of coconut. It goes down as one of the best shanks I've ever had. My partner had the chicken wings and he quite liked those but thought they needed to be a little better cooked as they were slightly pink in the middle - it wasn't badly undercooked though - just a preference. I would definitely come back to this restaurant again - no hesitation. I liked the owner's attitude as well - he went out of his way to make sure we were happy. Everything was freshly cooked and he told us the lunch would take a little bit longer to cook which was fine as I prefer this than having something microwaved. Definitely a winner in Newtown.
We noticed BROIL PERSIAN RESTAURANT at 85 King Street while window shopping around Newtown on Tuesday 01/11/16 approx.1pm. On entering we were both made extremely welcome by a female employee, unsure if she's the owner & sorry forgot her name, I did pick up a business card with the name REZA SARLAK tel no: 0405 324 797 / 02-9516 0360. We were shown the menu & were able to decide on our order without feeling rushed. We decided on ordering for myself the STUFFED EGGPLANT DOLMA, my friend ordered the PERSIAN CHICKEN KEBAB with RICE. Complementary entree given to us before the main meals were served + bottle of cool water. Both meals were served around 20 mines after ordering & considering we weren't in any rush the meals were very well presented & well cooked with good portion size. Two drinks ordered MANGO BANANA JUICE & ENERGETIC MAJOON SHAKE. Both meals were delicious in taste & the same for the two drinks. My friend ordered one dessert to share SAFFRON ICE CREAM. Afterwards we were given complementary Persian Tea, Rose & Cardamon flavour & 2 delicious dates. A great PERSIAN meal experience with excellent service.Paid in total for both meals, 2 drinks & one dessert AUD $52.50 & except C/Card payment & very reasonable price for the excellent service & meals.
Went there on a Sunday at 8:00 pm. The restaurant was closed despite their website as well as google showing "open today until 11:00 pm".
The restaurant is small so a bit cramped. Service was good and food was tasty. Gluten free was not a problem. I had a lamb stew with lime and really enjoyed it although it was a little too limey for my taste, but that may just be my issue. There were 4 chips on top which were not fully cooked. My partner had chicken curry and fesenjun both of which he enjoyed. We were able to Byo and the prices were moderate. Very nice overall and we would recommend it.
