Bidra med feedbackThe brunch was delicious! Lots of food, and delicious drinks. I would say it was a 5star experience for a normal brunch. Quiet enough to hear conversation with light live music in the background. Will definitely be back
WE visited Marygolds for Valentine's day... considered myself lucky to get a 7:15 PM reservation 4 days prior as expected the place was packed when we arrived and parking was at a premium in the fairly large lot. The host greeted us relatively soon after we arrived and suggested we wait at the bar until our table was ready. It was about a 20 minute wait for our table to turnover, and in the meantime the very capable bartender had mixed my wife a creative drink and poured me a glass of one of the house wines. When we were seated it took another 15+ minutes for a server to get to us we witnessed them scurrying about frantically covering the other tables, so like most restaurants these days, its hard to have enough help. The menu was diverse with many starters and salads to choose from, and several entrees (there were also special selections on separate menu). We decided on two appetizers: crab cakes, and whipped ricotta then a dinner salad and main course of their NY strip steak. The crab cakes were a nice size, not overbreaded and well prepared. The whipped ricotta was OK lacking any real character. The salad was decent, although a bit light on the blue cheese side sauce for the beets. The main course was a disappointment. The steak was tough and very fatty it came with two sauces that we chose of the three available: a bordelaise that was tasty, and a chimichurri that was inedible because it was so overgarliced with what was probably a green garlic clove. the dish was presented with shoestring fries, and cost $45... overpriced for what we got was our opinion. For dessert we had the homemade beignet with raspberry coulis decent, but not worth the trip there by themselves. Our server was energetic, pleasant and helpful. On the plus side, there was a talented guitar player singing in the adjacent room that provided nice background music, and the dining room(s) were open and spacious with an old New England Inn feel.
It was Valentines Day so I expected to it be busy unfortunately it seemed they were under staffed to which slowed the process. I had a 7pm reservation and didn't get seated until almost 7:30. I had the prime rib special which was delicious but cold. Again I chalk it up to being short staffed because the only two waiters we saw never stopped going from table to table and our waiter could not have been nicer. I will definitely be back and will recommend to others but won't come again on a special day.
It was Valentine 's Day and the place was full yet woefully understaffed. The server was gracious and apologetic...but apologizing every time she came to the table was unfortunate for her and us. As for the food wow. Just bland and completely run of the mill. The baked clams appetizer had clearly been purchased from the freezer case at Caraluzzi 's. When you put Steak Frites on a menu, it would help for the chef to understand what that dish is and not just a mediocre, unsliced strip steak thrown down on the plate with what appeared to be McDonald 's French fries in a scattered bunch. There 's a specific presentation to that dish and this was definitely not it. The sauce served on the side was also out of place. The special lobster bucatini lacked any seasoning whatsoever and by the look of things may have barely included 2.5 ounces of lobster meat. Our coffees and Espressos were ice cold. It had been a long time between visits and we will not be going back.
What a lovely surprise! My friend and I made a reservation because we were seeing a show in Newtown that night. We were coming in from out of town. From the moment we walked in we were so charmed. It was warmly lit, with a fireplace and lovely decor. There was a live musician, but he wasn't too loud and he was placed in the entry room, so we had no trouble talking over dinner. The food was absolutely scrumptious! And the staff were competent and kind. They got us out in plenty of time to make our show. My friend lives 30 minutes away, and he and his wife are excited to eat there again soon.
